Great run by BOF's Steve Vernon here on Saturday, just 1 second off winning the 4km Great Edinburgh International Cross Country. (If only he could have descended Haggis Knowe like an orienteer...)
Sneaky preparation for the Street Race and exploring a bit further up the hill in a fortnight?

yup, heard a faint shout (was up on the hill at the time) saying it was steve who had to be the British O guy - so he got a shout from me
looked in quite some pain trying to catch baddely in the last 300m though...

Any reasons why regular orienteers should recognise a BOF employee???

Was just thinking that, I have no idea what any of them look like... At least I recognised his name and said 'that's the guy who works for BOF'!

Ben Livesey, 35th in the long race, a couple of mins down on the top Brits, has been orienteering quite a bit recently - at a recent 3k sprint race (Roseisle) he managed a very respectable 17.10 (cf Eddie H 20.31) ... but wasn't satisfied with that so went and had another go - 14.17
has Steve Vernon been orienteering?

Re: Give that man a map!
I don't think he has been to regular events as a competitor. He he did go to a British Squad training in the Lakes and he has got to grips with the organisation very quickly and is making a difference.
His forte is mountain running but he only does the up races - doesn't do the up and downs. Notice how he was catching Baddeley up the hill but not on the downhill bit.

Well I would have thought that someone in a key position such as 'participation manager' would at least be recognized by orienteers in 'the know'.... but of course BOF being the NGO for the UK... this particular employee doesn't cover Scotland so it's not surprising he's not recognized north of Derby

I would be very surprised if he was not known by many in the 5 clubs where he was working in 2008, and reading the web site, the 10 he'll be working with in 2009.
