Calendar Girls (and boys)
Any thoughts on the new BOF calendar? I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting the pictures to be so good. There's obviously a lot of good photographer orienteers out there.

Well the only one which made me laugh out loud was September. That really is very, very funny, but they do say I have a warped sense of humour . . . .
Agree with Mharky. Dec is just naf.

Oh dear. I didn't take much notice of December first time because that picture is so familiar. That's a pity.

I'd pretty much agree with Mharky, although I'd upgrade January from good to great (compared with the others). Looks as if most of the hmm pictures are close-ups: emphasises to me that good orienteering pictures generally need some context.
One other I'd disagree with partially: December is horribly naff, but disagree that it was a good let alone a great picture to start with; rather, a standard post-medal winning photo that's fine for the papers, but doesn't rate any more than OK at the very best as a picture.

Re: Calendar Girls (and boys)
Depends on the target audience. I guess it's intended to be given as a present by orienteers, since non-orienteers are unlikely to find it for sale.
If it were full of pictures like July, I might consider giving it to a non-orienteering friend. However, pictures like May mean that it's really only of interest to another orienteer, which must limit the market considerably.
However, considered as a potential orienteer-to-orienteer present, it's not bad. Personally, I hate obviously-posed shots, so on that basis I rate December as "yuck". All the others are pretty good, January is perhaps my favourite. (Although If September was taken on a real course, I might not have thought much of the planning.)
Anyway, let's stop nit-picking and give the head office some credit for a change, it's a good effort.

I wouldn't rule out September being on a 'real' course - well at least not totally posed. West Midlands training tours in Sweden have a habit of controls in lakes

Re: Calendar Girls (and boys)
Never mind training: I had at least one control at the O-ringen this year which required going almost waist deep to get at it, and the Somme like conditions at the end of Day 5 last year were just as challenging!
I also recall a club championship event where I managed a fastest split by swimming across the neck of a lake rather than going round.

Some may be close ups but some may have been heavily cropped to fit the shape required for the calender, ie August. The cropped out background would have added more to it.

Re: Calendar Girls (and boys)
There are lots of websites that allow you to generate your own calendar. You send in pictures of your choice and can enter special dates - which could be all the important dates for your club - local events, club agm, chairman's birthday etc.
Probably a bit late for this year, but maybe something to think about for next year if your club wanted to do its own calendar. Santa hats optional.

Are BOF doing a calendar this year? I've seen no mention of one on the website...

There was the CompassSport one last year but I guess that it isn't being repeated. Shame, as I thought they were pretty good.

It had me searching the BOF website for fit blokes until I returned to the thread and found the date
