Re: Oxford City Race
Yes I went over the top and was really pleased with myself but then panicked when I couldn't see the control at the bottom of the steps (because I didn't read the control description which said wall end) so ran around a bit in a state before i found it

Re: Oxford City Race
There appears to be some strange goings on with the RouteGadget for the Oxford Race.
The control positions are showing up in different places on different computers.
They look fine on my Vista machine in both Firefox & IE7, but on Scott's machine they are out, although they were perfect this morning.
It may be some sort of Java problem, but not sure.
Computers, don't you just love 'em?
We are going to delete everything from the server and start again. So check back to the site after 6pm.

Re: Oxford City Race
I went over the top but at the time everyone else was going back down the steps. I saw the control as I was coming down the steps but thoase coming round seemed to be 'buzzing about' all over the place searching. I managed to cock up no 8 on course 3 shows up very clearly on split browser. I went to unopen gate, there seemed to be a gap beside, momentarily wondered if I could squeeze past but didn't as not in the spirit of the event. It taught me to look very closely at the map. That extra minute or so might have put me right up with Mrs H, certainly looks like that on split browser

Re: Oxford City Race
On the 'old ladies and young ladies' course we had that leg the other way round - wall end first then round or up and along to the stairs. I went up and along for the fun of it (no, actually I didn't see the round possibility)!
Interestingly my map at the wall end area was very different from others' maps so it was easier to see the pale grey line of the wall - we had no steps or olive green in that area of the circle. Bizarre - you'd have thought that the map was all the same with just the relevant bits cut out for each course.
I enjoyed the race and the route challenges but not the fact that the flat touch-free emit controls can actually be very 'hidden' if alongside a hedge/wall/building corner - a bit like trying to find paper plates in the 'old days'. It's easier to see a 3 dimensional control than a flat one! That's my excuse!

It was terrible having to bend down I must admit to finding it hard to adjusting to controls at a lower level, it's surprising how used to one height you can get.
I must say listening to reports of Venice and last years Oxford race feeling a fewe pangs of regret for missing them.
Just a small taunt for you macho men. Fancy a number of you being slower on the run in than a fat fifty year old woman

I almost went this way as a passing student was holding the gate open, but thought that it did look like it was marked as a forbidden to cross wall on the map, though I wasn't sure as the number 20 was printed right over the top of it. The shorter course maps clearly show an uncrossable wall. Will be nice to see who owns up on routegadget!
Looking at the splits for this leg - I'd guess that anyone who took less than 2 mins on this leg probably made use of the convenient open gate...
I'll have you know that I got a <2 minute split (just) going the correct way - somewhat irritating to lose so much time (and actually get overtaken) on this leg, when I got it almost spot on (unlike many of the other legs )

It's also pretty clear on the Mens Open when you look on splitsbrowser

Two things, both on the same leg. One gate into St Anne's wasn't open for early starters.
The other was an unmarked gate providing a much faster route, and often opened by "helpful" students.
...
If it really mattered (I don't think it does), that leg should have been taken out of the results, as it is clearly unfair.
I was first to arrive behind the 'should have been open' gate. Unlike last year, when I managed to find a college porter to open the gate into Wadham, there was nobody around in St Anne's. So I ran to the finish to tell the organiser.
Taking that leg out of Saturday's results, the main effect of the 'should have been open' gate is to move the ten earliest starters up by an average of about 6 places each. I gain 9 places. We are mostly way down the results list, except for Dave Rollins who moves up to second. He didn't seem too bothered about it when I spoke to him in the finish field.

Yes, me too I 've tried a few times to get to the second page - Is the image resolution so high that they take forever to load (There's nothing wrong with my broadband connection - loads other images just fine )

Re: Oxford City Race
The page loading speed at mysportsream is a mystery to me, mind you so are most things to do with computers. I've contacted the guy that operates the site and he's looking into it. I have an appalling connection speed and it only takes a few seconds for me, but we can't ignore it if people are affected by it. It seems a bit quicker if you click on "most recent" and scroll through. Luckily the Oxford pix are still near the front.

Re: Oxford City Race
My second ever city/sprint race after the JK at UWE. Really enjoyed it, and like others I regret not doing it the last year if it took in
more of the South Eastern part of Oxford near the River. Just one comment on the map:
Although I realised the pavements were not mapped, I assumed from the Map that Keble road joined the main North/South road, when in fact its blocked off to traffic. This caused me a little excursion into town! Though it was my own inexperience at this scale meant I ended up on Broad Street!
Thanks again and will be back next year.

I took 1:42 on that leg going the correct way with significant hesitation on the way to the gate and having to wait for traffic to cross the road. That leg was probably possible in around 1:15-1:20 for the fastest runners going the correct way.

Why have no elite women posted their route on Routegadget?
This would provide interest to us Vet men if anyone could oblige.

One of the "techie" guys at Mysportstream has just emailed to me to say that he thinks he's fixed the problem with the photos loading slowly for some people, let me know if there is still a problem and I'll flick his ear again
