"They only weigh one gramme each! That's less than a 'Smartie'!"
That's what the blurb said, and I thought that they would work. But oh no, as I should have guessed, they were useless at the overnight camp at the OMM. One look at the spindly little pieces of turd in their puny polythene pouch at the 'Up and Running' stall in the cowshed on Friday night should have told me that they would be about as useful as a chocolate teapot, but oh no, I was won over by the weight saving. Come Saturday evening, I was using (as detailed in another Nopesport post - forgive the repetition) bits of wood, pencil and a mess tin handle to secure my tent. Come 2am Sunday and the whole thing collapsed. The ensuing six hours of shivering prior to the start of day 2 were not enjoyable.
Never again.
Anyone willing to stand up for them? (As they quite literally are unable to stand up for themsleves )
Or can anyone tell any similar tales about 'nightmare' pieces of kit they wished they'd never bought?

Re: Titanium pegs...
I was using a borrowed tent on Saturday, and was slightly horrified when the pegs turning out to be some dodgy-looking carbon fibre things apparently modelled on drinking straws, but they seemed to do their job pretty well: we had a relatively dry night (relative to, say, scuba diving).

Re: Titanium pegs...
I've got carbon pegs with my Polaris Shelter, and they work just fine - they're basically just tiny bits of carbon rod, and I'm sure weigh far less than 1g each. Not sure I'd trust them on their own in difficult conditions, and would get alu pegs out then. Ti really is a strange material to make pegs out of, as for the same weight an alu peg will be stiffer (there does seem to be a bit of a ti obsession, with people taking ti mugs to cook in and ti sporks, whilst I "make do" with my lighter alu foil dish for cooking and plastic spoon). Oh, and I should point out that when I did Polaris with really wild weather forecast I borrowed a hooped bivvy instead as I didn't trust a flimsy single skin with cf poles!
