I think it must be the ridiculous stories that come from the global village of chess, never while ive been orienteering have i been threatened with death or played someone so drunk that they fell over their chair and needed two people to get them back up... This story is a good example of the carry on and glamour of international chess

Its funny chess has the opposite problems to orienteering. Orienteering could actually be a very fashionable sport if only we didnt have this anorak image following us around. Chess is intellectual boxing between two people over a few hours which is addictive to someones 'geeky' side, but because everyone is trying to make it trendy it just makes a joke of itself.
