Pictures are better than words because sometimes words are big and hard to understand.

By doing the Force 10 / Phoneix long-o in the Cheviots on the same weekend. The prizes will be much better, each day of the event will be just as physically challenging, and you'll get to orienteer rather than just following people.

or alternatively you could do the three shires starting and finishing at the three shires pub in little langdale -who pull the famous coniston bluebird (thats a beer not a girl)
or alternatively you could do the final counter in the british fell championship - the peris horseshoe 17.5miles 8,500 feet of climb, and then to the Dolbadarn in llanberis for some banter with the local and some fine beverages
or alternatively the Lantern Pikefell race. With the probably the oldest record in the FRA Calendar? 1977 - Ricky Wilde - 29:12mins.
all are entry on the day so na na...

which is fine
since these are both on the 16th of September
The Three Shires is a beauty.
and even has one of the all new Bilbo Bagness Lakeland Classic Route maps to guide you on your way.
For something a little shorter there is the Dale Head race on Sunday, from Rosthwaite in Borrowdale - 45 to 50 minutes
