rc5 is a bof publication and bof guidelines say that you cant name people. in the last issue i even had to blank the number on the bib of the boy on the cover, incase paedos looked up event results with bib numbers and traced the boys name. i dont like it any more than you do but i do as im told

actually i noticed chepls and scotia both had photos with names.. are they at risk now? hmm i think not. yes BOF do have a responsibility to protect us kiddies, but really, we're more at risk when spending almost or over an hour on a random hillside in the pouring rain and galeforce winds!! how can we clebrate the sucess of individual juniors without knowing who they are?! and to be honest, how would a paedophile get their hands ona copy of rc5, or am i missing something?

too right! i'd quite happily give bof a piece my mind about this, but i have no idea who exactly to contact. any advice?
and also HOC have a similar policy, but i think all (or nearly all) of our juniors have signed a form to say we give permission for our photos to be used in the club magazine or on the website etc.(mrs h could give more specific details). if its true that most juniors are against witholding our names, then couldnt a similar system be set up? yes it would be difficult if one person objected and then had to be removed from every photo they were in, but i cant see it happening!

and also interviewing sarah rollins in a junior mag - come on!
and the writing was massive
I think we need a magazine written by juniors for juniors, not 2 over 50s, even if they have been working with juniors for years

I agree, RC5 is good, but i reckon they could do more that was specifically aimed at juniors. Routes & comments from interland people, things about other events around the country, even if they weren't big comps, interviews with juniors. looking back there was the interview with colin olivant and the comments from bsoa, but it would also be good to have things about training techniques, fitness stuff, profiles of juniors etc.
And i dunno about anyone else, but i always find the Search magazine really boring! (no offence bsoa, but it doesn't really seem as if it is aimed at juniors).

She's right it's a waste of 4 pages in a junior magazine

there is a bit somewhere in rc5 that says that they want to know what you guys want in it. hilary palmer is in charge and as im sure a lot of you know, she is not an ogre, she is very approachable and willing to listen and im sure she would welcome your input into the mag. her email address is on the first page of rc5, or alternatively if you pass things on to me i will pass them along the line to her. i do agree with your comments on the whole, btw.
having worked on the last few rc5s, i can tell you that its really difficult to get info sometimes, as the budget is non existent, the deadline is tight, files have to go through several people and can get lost or corrupted or turn up in the wrong formats etc etc. plus actually getting people to write things and send in things can be hard at times. therefore im sure that suse and hilary would welcome map routes, reports, or any other content for the magazine. again, send it to them, or pass it to me and i'll send it on.
i dont think any of us (certainly i didnt) realised that you guys felt so strongly about it.

Dan somebady should learn how to spell!
This paedophile thing: i spose everything has 2 b done officially so they can get into trouble.
RC5 is alright, perhaps needs a bit more realting directly to the juniours, perhaps with a junor editor?? More race feedback perhaps with some prduct reviews maybe? Maybe room for fazzers fantasies?
