Winter Woolies
If it is going to be a bit chilly at these races on the weekend please can anyone reccommend makes of hat and gloves that they find particularly well designed for orienteering ?

I just wear my usual Buff (http://www.buff.es) headband wider to cover ears etc, then about control 4 when I'm too hot I can push it back to a normal headband.[/url]

however, getting any Craft gear to arrive by Saturday could be a problem (though it is the bomb).
i'll be using my 1000 mile thermal gloves, buff and nike dri-fit lycra and top. alternatively if it warms up shorts and vest it will be...

Nice one Mharky good bit of publicity for the sponsors
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

In the same spirit as Mharky:
I recommend one of the nice Howies merino base layers instead. Lovely and warm, and should be able to get next day delivery on one of those.

I would recommend staying in bed.
Us risk-averse Brits will probably cancel the events.
As most of us are going to the Lakes anyway, anybody thought of alternative training/racing?

Not just us Brits...
the Orienteering Today site wrote:Normally the season should be well underway in both Sweden and Denmark, with the season in Norway starting the last weekend of March. But wintry conditions have so far decimated the program, with 24 events cancelled so far in Sweden in March (and already events on April 8th are cancelled).
There's also a Snow-Watch page on the Spring Cup website. Looks like about 6 inches of snow in the forest at the moment.

Funny you should say that - I'm just printing off maps for Chasers training on Black Beck that we've got planned for Saturday anyway...(date was booked before I knew about JOK event)

I expect there is - I'm waiting to hear how bad it is. Access is likely to be a problem if snow is bad.
We'll still be going up anyway - accommodation is booked and the sledging should be good even if O is impossible.
Hopefully everything will be OK and the O will be on..
Personally I like the Submerino base layers from Ground Effect that I buy in from Christchurch (NZ). They are fab, especially with an Ice Queen over the top!
