It's quite obvious that the runners lower down are being disregarded again. It's those that suffer not the top athletes, they will lose interest and not bother anymore. Think of them and also not everyone wants to train everyday!

So it goes like this
" I can't be arsed training hard enough to get more points through my own effort
but I'd like to single out any foreigner that beats me so that they get no points
so that I don't lose any "
nope off

the uk cup is Britain's elite orienteering series - it should give the already-elite a focus and the not-elite a chance to measure themselves.
As for the "getting one point is an achievement" - the stats say that if you finish all races in one series then you'd have racked up a fair few points:
given that the top 50 in next year's races will be getting points, that means that the last finisher in the average UK Cup men's field will get 3 points and in the women's about 20 points.
Personally, I think the new points regime is too generous - you should get points for achievement, not for taking part.

I agree to some including me it's an achievement getting a single point, but I don't want to get one just because a chunk of the field have been excluded.
If anything just make the points go down further - which if I understand correctly is what's been done?
I think sometimes too much thought is put into these scoring systems on how to make it "fair" e.g. Scottish 6 day and it's better to say this is how the points are allocated now get on with trying to win it. I think the UK cup is a simple scoring system that works fine.

damn right
UK Cup is supposed to be a serious race series for people who want to measure themselves against the best.
If you don't measure up then the answer is to improve yourself. The answer is not to dilute the competition down to your own low standards.

Not particularly on either side here - I'll run the races I want to run regardless of what points I'm going to get but just one comment to make:
If the "UK Cup is supposed to be a serious race series for people who want to measure themselves against the best" (as per Kitch) but the best aren't bothered about running it (as per Ed) then is it not failing in its aim?

Have they changed?
I think the scoring system has changed, and maybe the number of counting races?
Thanks for this. The one thing I cannot see in the rules is what course to run. Being ignorant on these matters, is it a special class or does everyone trying for points enter M/W21 ?

It depends on the event King Penguin. It's generally M/W21E if it exists, but at some races there will be special UK Cup course s- it's usually well indicated on the details so don't worry!
Will? We've got proper fire now!

it's also going to be better, and the official website next year - for results (and fantasy UKCup assuming GG or someone else organises that again) at any rate.
Personally I'd like to see a UKCup portal that pulled the results out of the ukcup.db, the relevant news stories from nopesport and maybe some nice graphics and extra content together to make a nice media/non-orienteer friendly presentation of the series... but I leave that as an exercise for the reader as I have barely time to work on the .db site which I see mainly as being aimed at geeky orienteers as that's a target audience I find strangely easy to aim at...

Ok, I see where most of you are coming from and accept your comments even if some are unnecessarily abusive. Personally I still think non BOF registered Foreigners shouldn't get points and I know others I've spoken to feel the same but on reflection completely stupid was harsh.
