well we could probably quite happily map it, running races would be a different matter, we were well up for a big freshers week sprint race but they were having none of it.

I legged it through Pollock as a cunning short cut during the 7 hills race last June - got shouted at by some security bloke when I climbed some fence round the building works - nothing like a bit of adrenalin to speed you up

campus map has just been updated, but i guess its not technical enough really - there would be good route choice though, but a fair bit of fields and lots of road crossings
also, what is the opinion on term time / holidays?
when could we fit in a sprint race too? if it is in the holidays we could potentially have a third day with the inaugaural busa sprint champs - discuss

the problem with holding it in the holidays is that it makes it more difficult for some people to get there. in general, it's easier during term time as you can get transport (i.e. a minibus) for everyone much more easily, and your all going from the same place.
If I'm right, David Rosen wanted BUSA held during term time this year because then he thought there would be a greater turnout - does anyone know how numbers this year compared to previous years?
Sprint race does sound a good idea, maybe the campus could be ideal for that?

To be fair, the campus is lit like a beacon at night anyway, so would work for a night sprint race. The other option is to have it on friday aternoon (3 o'clock starts anyone?) so people don't have to leave on Thursday if you re travelling from the Burgh. Plus as it is (a) short and (b) not technical, you could be over with by 5 o'clock and have 2 nights of BUSA style drinking.
Now, I know you're a feminist, and I think that's adorable, but this is grown-up time and I'm the man.

as far as i know our numbers this year were about the same as previous years - if you're like us you won't get much choice over the date anyway cos of compass sport cup and the like. i doubt that having it in or out of uni holidays makes much difference as i can't see either of the two superpowers of student orienteering staying away whenever it happens! Unless they fear being shamed by the guys in 3rd place...

i dont think that the 2 superpowers are really that important (sorry guys) u know that they will field their top teams whatever happens. surely the key is to get the smaller teams to bring as many people as possible, including us punters and the part timers, and that will be much harder if done in holidays. also im not sure that all holidays overlap, i know for instance that all 3 edinburgh unis have different holidays

yeah, i agree, how many of those punters in those awful red and black tops would have gone if they had to do it from thier homes???
has to be done in term time. and as much as a good idea the sprint race is, adding an extra day is always going to be a problem for the people who have to travel far, like aberdeen.

i reckon you'll be ok if you do it late feb/early march - most people seem to be in termtime then (correct me if i'm wrong). really like the idea of a sprint race but adding an extra day on for it doesn't sound ideal for people who have to travel. also from our experience it will probably mean an extra 2 days and prolonged sleep deprivation for your helpers which they might not be too keen on

i'd prefer it later in the season if a suitable date can be found, bit of a bugger being one of the first races of the season as most folk hadn't been doing that many races apart from the jok the weekend before.
