i'm heading to london town for a few days this week to go see & hear copious amounts of fine fine music at atp's don't look back(lemonheads, mudhoney, cat power, múm) and smalltown america's all dayer (seafood, help she can't swim + a load more) but would quite like some inspiration as to what to spend the rest of my time doing. Anyone got any suggestions as to what I can do thats cheap and not too hard to get to?
also, if anyone can offer me a bit of floor space to prevent me having to go 100+ hours without sleep that'd be nice
Tate Modern - south bank - free and a big space and some icons of modern art.
Walk up Camden High Street or through Regent's Park to see London from Primrose Hill. Great vista - only worth the hike up there on a clear day though.
Visit the Royal Courts of Justice - you can see the High Court and the Court of Appeal in action - or inaction rather. Gives an insight on our (ie English and probably not as good as the Scottish) system of justice. Plus the building itself is a bit weird, would be great for an elaborate game of hide and seek.
Covent Garden tries to emulate Princes St Gardens in its street artists but fails.
If you start to feel homesick you can always visit the Wallace memorial in West Smithfield (where he was hung drawn and quartered) followed by an early morning pint at the Hope and Anchor - it opens very early for the meatmarket workers (you have to walk through Smithfield meat market to get to it - hope you're not a veggie).
You could take a trip to Canary Wharf and pretend you're in downtown Manhattan pre 9/11, the architecture is so similar it's quite eerie.
Can't think of much else as I only work in London, but live nearly 90 miles outside of it, so I can't offer you floor space, I'm afraid.
If you're still around on Sunday 18th you could get the train out to Stansted Airport for the SOS Badge event and EA Championships (where the JEC relays were).
i just saw the noping lemonheads play pretty much their whole back catalogue. oh my that was noping amazing. didn't play mrs robinson but we'll let them off for that as they did play pretty much everything else.
now i need to find my way home which could be interesting...
