the big question for me is... will anyone from BOF actually read what we are writing on this website with regard to their website? I THINK NOT!!! after all we're just a bunch of orienteers....
as for the site. it sucks. from now on i'll just use nopesport.

It took me ages to work out where London was in the list (under Greater, in case you're wondering).
Is it sensible to use counties like this? The maps were much better as you could just click the general area. My knowledge of Scottich or Welsh counties is pretty vague and I expect North of the border [nope]s don't know their surreys from their sussexes.

Surely everything south of Birmingham = London.
Having had a look at the list of counties, how can you have Lothian and Midlothian on the same list? And East Lothian Orienteers appear under Lothian, so why do you need a separate entry for East Lothian?
Bring back the maps!!
Oh, and what's wrong with Closed Clubs? Don't they have web-sites too?
The more I think, the more confused I get...

Sorry if this is a bit long, but looking through this new site has really irritated me - the overall look is slightly better, albeit not much, but that's just about the only positive...
The front page has way too much emphasis on "leisure activity". You don't have to be super-fit to enjoy orienteering, but it's still in essence a competitive sport, not an organised ramble.
"New to O" section - the layout might have been updated, but the content hasn't been checked properly, like the old ranking description. Also the only map extract on the site is the same boring bit of Thetford Warren that they've been using for years, surely they can come up with an area that looks a bit more interesting! And that Y.O! logo is hideous
The "find your local club" interface is awful, much worse than the maps it has replaced. The only other way of finding clubs is through the "Clubs Directory", which while it includes the closed clubs as well doesn't give you any information other than the abbreviation as to where they might be based! The associations aren't yet linked to at all and might as well not exist.
The News section is as dull as ever - perhaps we should just tell them to link to the front page of nopesport
Most of the rest of the site is just "under construction", yet it's already in place at http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk as the primary reference - this is absurd, in its current state it should only be online as a draft for consultation.
The index bar on the left is inconsistent (just like the old one...) and makes it hard to find anything. The front page has prominent links to "Governing body" and "Sponsors" but not "Clubs", "Results" or "Rankings" which is the information that people probably really want.
There are many pages in the "Site Map" that don't seem to be linked from anywhere else - and the Technical/Event Standards page on the current site seems to have disappeared completely, despite being the definitive reference for the Rules and Guidelines. Oh, and most of the photos are dire.
Sorry BOF, but this just isn't good enough, particularly as this has apparently been a work in progress for some time. Most clubs' websites are better, and the SOA site mentioned earlier is much better. I just hope they haven't actually paid for it...

well now we appear to have amassed almost a whole mass of comments, the bof site webmaster would almost certainly welcome the opportunity to read them... maybe he already has, or maybe somebody ought to point him in the right direction.
wouldn't want it all to go to waste now.

Bof news page: yesterdays great news - you'ld think it might be something about having 7 qualifiers in the PWT, but no, theres a new job available (sadly not for a webmaster) and some regional development posts have been filled.
i'm glad i bothered checking, i don't know what i'd have done if i hadn't found out about that news. oh well, maybe there'll be something about it later on in the week

Brooner - I'm really surprised that you have not worked it out yet. BOF is a self perpetuating organisation which exists to get money out of the sports council (and you and me) to employ people to make sure that they get more money out of the sports council to employ more.......it's got absolutely nothing to do with orienteering.
