so im bored at work, and i start to have a flick through my stats from my website, cos i need to check some transfer figures before i transfer to a new server. usual stuff, check referrers to my site, find a few from sites i designed, a few from my profile here, a few from really bizarre stuff like "chesnet hawkes website" and "phil taylor oso" searches on google. then i happen to notice that theres a lot of referrers from myspace to 2 of my image files. on closer inspection, i find that 3 users on myspace (that i know of) are using one of my desktop wallpapers as their webpage backgrounds. not only that, but they are actually using the url from my site for it, upping my bandwidth. they didnt even have the decency to download the image and upload it to their own space. they would have got away with it that way.
so what do i do?
here they are btw -

The correct answer is to replace the image with something disgusting (get in touch
) then act morally superior when they complain. Either that or send an anonymous email to myspace complaining about filth on one of their hosted sites.
For a more technical solution, use htaccess to redirect just requests from those referers to filth.

yeah i've seen a discussion on this before, change it for something either disgusting or completely random.
for the concert promoters i'd choose something that no one trying to pass themselves off as concert promoters would use. (i'll leave that to your imagination).

actually, i'd like to retract my vote for "replace the images they are using with disgusting porn, such as tubgirl or goatse?" and suggest something different?
How about designing them a nice new background, especially for their site. stick your own url on it. After all it doesnt really hurt you that they've been stealing your image - the bandwidth is pretty negligible surely?
dunno why, im just feeling very peaceful today.

in this age of litigation, you could flash a subliminal message onto the screen for 0.05s intervals saying something like "Oooh men!" I could pretend to have become gay from looking at their website and my mum could sue the people who made the website for turning their son into a raging bendor. We'll all be rich
Or I could stop using my imagination so much.

It may also be worth setting up htaccess to stop people from being able to hotlink images in the future. This tool is useful for setting such a protection system up.
