Just something I thought I'd share following Wasdale.
I used Proderm moose, factor 12 (sport) - (available at Sainsbury's - navy blue bottle, orange cap) - on body legs and arms
The race took 4 and a half hours.
4 hours of direct sunshine
Continuous heavy sweating.
I ran for 3 hours without a top on.
didn't get any sunburn atall. (apart from lower calf - which I missed and that was quite sore)
So I would say this is a very effective protection for sporting activity.
It works despite sweating, despite 3 dunkings in streams/tarns. despit wiping forehead with shirt.
Note . if applying to forehead apply early, allow to soak in and wash off any excess because if the excess runs off into your eyes when you sweat it stings a bit.

i find riemanns P20 the daddy. you put it on once in the morning, 1/2 hour-hour before exposure, and it lasts all day, no matter what. the only time i've had to reapply was when in the sea and waves a lot. its factor 20 by the way. its also non sticky and easy to apply- its kinda like oil.only drawback - a bit pricy, but i get my parents to buy it! - a small bottle also goes a very long way.

I seem to remember you "protected" most of the download tent with your sunscreen as well Kitch!
Another good sunscreen for sport is the Malibu Sport one. If you can still find it they did a gel one (white bottle) which is non-greasy but stings a little when you put it on. Their cream one (Sport) is still good though. They are both factor 8. I've seen it in Sainsbury's but I got my last bottle in a local pharmacy.
Are they good for very fair skin? Better to have factor 8 or 12 that stays on through sweat rather than factor 50 that stays on for the first 10 mins I would say.

James and I use "careful choice of parents" . No sunburn at all in France despite several days of blazing sunshine. Though it does seem to mean getting more thoroughly searched at airports

Ah, I didn't read that.
So Mari's record only survived the assault of a British Championship by half an hour...
