[/quote]A really poor turn out compared to previous years, particularly at primary level. What are the SDO's doing I thought this would be a target event.
We don't have SDOs any more! What about the event publicity? Did the organisers use the club/school links network via the PDMs and SSCos or just rely on orienteering youngsters?

PDMs = Partnership Development Managers
SSCos = School Sports Coordinators
These are some of the important people (along with the Primary Link Teachers = PLTs) in the School Sports Partnerships (SSPs) with which some clubs are making links.
Point being - don't just blame a BOF employee = easy target who can't answer back. Look at the broader picture of the advertising and marketing of the event - or any event aimed at young people in schools.

Thanks for the free advertising!
The software to run these screens will be available in the next few weeks will be FREE and no licence required - just download, install and use. Oh and build a pigeon loft....or talk to Stodge and WCH and borrow their set-up.
There will be other O software at (low) cost also but I won't take liberties and discuss it here, other than saying you will find it where the FREE bits are.

Ok it was seven weeks not a few but the software is available here:
http://autodownload.eirasoftware.com/
The Live Results is available as a free, no-questions-asked download. There's a Contact Us page if you have any sensible suggestions. If you're nit picking then you will be ignored - it is free after all.
There's also the main bit of software for doing downloads on there. I won't take too many liberties talking about it here but if you're interested then go look.

I've done ones for West Midlands Schools and for Fell Races. CSC is planned once 2006 rules are out - will be free also. It won't be part of live results but a separate app - keep it simple. Again input will be IOF XML therefore can be used with either OE or my stuff or anything which outputs IOF XML.
Don't get the Jewellery bit? I think it's supposed to be a sutble hint at where to look for something but I'm not sutble usually.

Well done FatBoy.... Live team results could really add some spice to the sport, if for nothing else to give people an excuse to hang around after the event and socialise. Would it be possible to make the "competition rules" configurable? not just because the CSC rules change, but because the software might encourage more inter-club competitions to liven up district events.

Sorry, that was a bit too subtle, I was talking about the new nopesport.com site with the list of "related searches" that includes "Jewelry" (I guess that's an American spelling?).

The Fell Race one I did is configurable to a certain degree - which age classes count to each prize, the number of runners to count etc. I think configuration like that will probably be built in to it when it happens. You set-up a configuration file in Excel (or other spreadsheet) and pass that in - means you can do the file in advance and not mess it up on the day. The WM schools one was a nightmare set of rules and not likely to ever be user configurable!
I get the jewelry thing now - never read what was on that page!

The CSC/CST and YBT version of Live Results software is now up on my website - it's free and unlicensed.
It's one app which is bascially configurable to do any interclub competition based around the same scoring as these competitions - i.e. X points for 1st place, Y points per position behind that, maximum of J scorers per course and K scorers overall. It comes with example configurations for 2005 rules of these competitions. It's been tested with results from last year's YBT final and the POTOC CSC/T qualifier from this year. It'll be tested live at the WCH YBT qualifier on 2nd Oct. It also has a basic printout and HTML export to it.
Any sensible suggestions for improvements will be taken on board.
Website address below. Enjoy.
