surely a chasing short would be a better name for it
When the chasing sprint started BOF had just introduced "sprint-O" as the
name for races of about half an hour.
Later the name for such races became "short-course"
Now they're called "medium distance".
Maybe we should change the name to keep up with the times. Or better
still get ahead of the times - look out for the 2005 JOK Chasing long-O
The courses are a bit longer than usual (as it said on the entry form). There are three reasons for this:
1/ Times at Sherwood Pines are closer than at previous venues. Over 2.5k mens course even I (ranked ~60) would hope to get within a minute
of the leaders. Starting 60 people in a minute interval would be silly. To get a reasonable spread of start times the prologue needs to be longer than usual.
2/ The chase is usually further than the prologue. This year it's the other way round. It could have been shorter if we'd either gone for a start/finish away from assembly or really noddy courses. I felt an extra 5 mins running was worth doing for having spectator potential and more technical courses (orange not yellow )
3/ Previous chasing sprints have been combined with a classic race the next day, so we didn't want to completely knacker you. This year you can run as hard as you like and relax on Monday.
Feel free to disagree with any of those decisions, we make our own rules, but our aim is to make the Chasing Sprint format what the competitors want.

anyone got any thoughts on the seeded group being in the middle of the swtart block rather than at the end as was the norm with most events that were seeded last year?
also, anyone know if the early starters are going 2 be disadvantaged by undergrowth etc?
and mharky has unfair inside information so don't take his bet!

that was a truly stunning finish, out of the hundreds of people i saw you were the only one to stack it, ha!
i only have 3 of the batteries for my camera at the moment so cant check, and my USB connection is in Romsey, so cant uplaod either. i'l try and find someone here who can upload them for me, if not you'l have to wait til the week before the JK.

i thought the planning was really good. considering the whole forest is full of brambles what we had to run through wasnt that bad. the courses were really good compared to what we ran last year at the fcc.
it's all fun
