SOME IDEAS.
do we need to get more 'olds' on board? - M/W40+ orienteers, those people who you always see organising events and putting up results and keeping our sport ticking over? How about a new section in the forum where people can advertise/sell their events? They could well be your parents!
Also what about a 'veteran's' section? we have in the UK a massively popular veterans orienteering scene, they must sledge each other just as much as us youngsters, and enjoy discussing orienteering life in general.
Have you advertised the site in CompassSport? also through the various smaller bulletins produced by the regional associations? these publications probably still represent the best way to reach the masses.
You guys are really onto a good thing here, lets all help to keep making it stronger.
thanks to all of you for starting this site up.

i like the idea of getting more veterans involved. i'm sure some of the current users of the site might admit to being "veterans" although there aren't many in that category. i think it would be good to get the whole uk orienteering community represented on nopesport.com.

respect abd some ideas
I think you are on the right track here - speaking as one of the aforementioned vets i'm sure i'm enjoying nopesport as much as anyone - I am about to give you a very BIG plug in my club magazine -(which i edit and therefor am all-powerful!) - although Ihave mentioned the site is not at present for everyone it's emphasis will shift as more oldies join (that does not mean it needs to lose the cutting edge which I think is vitel which you guys bring) ---------------The thing which sets nopesport apart is the forum - incidentally - while I'm happy to leave well alone any junior banter not suitable for my ageing eyes - it's not always easy to tell from the home page which topic is in which category so I might just click on to something I wish I hadn't without realising it. Keep up the good work - that's what I say - and i'm sure we oldies will be grateful for any crumbs of consideration which come are away - and yes it will strengthen the site as a whole

Was thinking, instead of an advert asa it costs £££££, try to be cheeky and write an article on the progress of orienteering on the web, with a big section on [nope]. With a big plug we will get a lot of hits
Now, I know you're a feminist, and I think that's adorable, but this is grown-up time and I'm the man.

there are many many ideas in progress, most of them cheaper than advertising in compassport: banner exchanges, mailouts etc.
we hope to get more veterans onboard come the race season: flyering at boc, jk etc and providing indepth coverage straight after the races.
watch it blossom

I was wondering if there could be a race forum, where particular events could be analysed. from my perspective there could be some scanning of maps and some route choices could be compared. I am always interested in other perspectives. So
Eg, within the Index, there is a races forum,
---> Within this forum, there is one discussion per race (perhaps only major ones) where people could chat about their races with others.

(Flies out the window next to the window, off to save another sport perhaps??)

Being an ex-journo of sorts I would have thought you would qualify as a news item in compassSport without having to pay - I'm sure Suse would be interested if you sent her an article and that new international O Sport magazine is always asking for articles - go Global!

thankyou thankyou thankyou for all this feedback
i have been asking for it for ages, so thanks to ben who has kicktarted this particular discussion.
it is incredible to hear you all talk about this site like it is everyone's. because it is. we want this site to be yours. we want you to help us make it better.
a few things -
ads - we are doing flyering at hopefully every badge event and upward this season (incidentally, if anyone would be prepared to have some flyers sent to them, then give them out at events, that would amazing, please send me a private message/email)
advertising in compass sport etc, will have to wait, unless they want to do a story about us, which would be really good. we do not want to hassle people, that is not what we are about. as for the regional newsletters, we are working on that too. if any of you are involved in any of these, please let us know. this site has grown to the proportions bendover mentioned with relatively little advertising, and we are hoping that word of mouth will keep it growing. we realise this is not enough, which is why we are flyering at events, and also working on some promotional things, but we cant unfortunately announce much of that yet, other than the [nope] crew will be advertised on bibs at the aros elite test/shi's/scot vs ltu and will be in charge of razmatazz at the saturday night party and sunday relays. more on promotion later. as rocky said, banner exchanges are on the cards, eg. oliandjenny.co.uk and we are hoping that people are forwarding the original mail out we sent. quite a few sites have added us to their links page or menu bar or whatever, so that sounds promising.
vets - of course we want to attract more vets, and younger juniors. as rocky said, we are hoping this will come when we start advertising at events when the season starts. the problem with these groups of people is that the internet is often quite foreign to them. but yes we would love to get more vets on here. the things mentioned about the site on other sites often say that nopesport is aimed at juniors and edinburgh folk. this is not true. the juniors qand edinburgh folk were just the first to pick up on it because we know them and they are more used to checking things out on the internet. now that we have attracted a lot of these people, it is time to turn our attention to other groups, without neglecting our original supporters.
forum - adding a vets forum is a distinct possibilty, however, it will only go up if there is enough interest. we want the forum to be easy to use, and large amounts of different forums can be confusing to the less internet savvy. if we receive enough support for one either by posts, emails or private messages, we will certainly put one up. the races forum is something we had already discussed in quite a bit of detail, roughly along the same lines as is suggested above. again though, there is the danger of adding too many forums. but i think we will add a races forum. the maps can be posted in there, but also our collection of maps is growing in the gallery, in the maps section, we have jwoc 2007 up and jwoc for this year coming very soon, also we will be striving to get scans of winners routes for big races when they happen.
events - that is what the events bulletin on the frontpage is for. if anyone wants to advertise their event, all they have to do is email us the details and we will add it in there.
is that all?
keep this coming folks. lovin it!
thnax again

there the big man says his lot. seriously the only way nopesport can grow and get better is if people contact the folk who run the site. everyone involved lives on their computer so messages get replied fairly quickly.
so go drop a line comments, praise, criticism, banter, news

I was in the bath and was thinking, how about a training resource for coaches? Not necessarily a forum, but something that we can send contributions to. Would definitely attract a different group of people - the coaches (some of who are vets!!)
