Blackspur Compasses
Just spotted, in a local plastics / tools shop, cheap (£1.49) compasses made by Blackspur, a company that makes budget hand tools (folding pruning saws were excellent for removing antlers from reindeer skulls in South Georgia!) These compasses look like Silva type, with large baseplate 11cm x 6cm, with magnifier, luminous dots on needle and NESW points, scales for cm, 1:50000 & 1:25000 scales, yellow nylon cord. Has anyone tried these and have any comments?

I bought one of those some month ago.
It looked not bad, but the northern part of the needle was a bit heavier than the southern part, so it touched the capsule bottom when set on a desk. The needle moved freely only if you tilted the compass a bit. So I considered it complete rubbish and returned it.
