Great to see the old student traditions being up held and everyone having so much fun - of course we weren't allowed to in my day - and there were no digital cameras to prove otherwise! - but how are you lot coping with the Picture Police - Im not saying you are young enough to be Young but some of you look a bit Vulnerable - particularly that poor lad at the end of the launch party gallery. This Young And vulnerable persons protection act with regard to the use of pictures is making my life as a club mag ed very boring. the time is coming when we won't be able to use pictures of Lord Fred and then none of us will be able to have a good laugh

Even with permission, BOF don't want the juniors to be easily identifyable. Imagine this :"Here is a picture of one of our juniors who has been selected for tour" or Here are our M14 relay winning team of ****, **** and ****" it doesnt make very interesting reading does it. And anyway who is at risk - and from what?

Why do they not want that, what exactly do they think is going to happen??? Its not like compass sport goes out to a large audience is it, they are all orienteering, who if they were going to do anything which i dont thing should be spoken about they would go to an event surely

I'd of thought the beach on any summer's day would be a better bet that an orienteering event let alone my humble club mag - not that humble actually - really rather good! Anyway - I thought the Government want to encourage kids into sport 'cos ther're all so fat and over protected - funny way of doing it by not showing any pictures of kids doing sport - have you looked at the sports pages of your local paper lately - you'll find precious few shots of kids playing footie like in the good old days when your Gran used to keep the cuttings.

Good point about the beach. Its just stupid politicians. RC#5 is going to suffer, the issues normally have a collage (i dont know how to spell that, Col-aarge) of juniors along the bottom of each page, it was good, coz the not so talented could get it, and that was cool.

no seriously though, i do understand why there are these rules in place but it does seem to be a bit over the top at times. i understand why children have to be protected and so forth, and why none of there details should be printed with them, and why there competitor numbers should be blanked out and so on, but just not publishing photographs of kids at all is daft. especially, for instance, in the case of some of our gallery stars, such as scotia, chepls, drew etc, all supposedly not allowed to have their photos published without parental consent, yet allowed to go to university (as they all do) and get married, and gamble, etc. ridiculous. i really hope the media can get over this kiddie thing soon and find a new sensational story that they can use to make themselves seem compassionate, so we can get back to normal.

it does seem quite incredible, i've got a big fat leaflet on how it affects orienteering publicity: websites, newsletters etc, and thats not even anything official, thats an unofficial set of guidelines and its pretty hefty.
like me! although i would have prefered to have had my permission asked first, my PR lawyer is taking care of it...

i don't see the problem with having no name attached to the photo
not totally sure on the 'check with parents' thing though
on the same subject, could (according to these rules) the avatars with your mugs on be dodgy? just a thought anyway...
