it's interesting how here, and on other schemes, that orienteering is used in "team-building" exercises, when it is primarily an individual rather than team sport. how do they think getting a load of people lost in a forest (which I assume happens...) is any good for team building??

This is kind of related but an interesting point... I'm working on an outdoor puriuts centre at the moment (run by a keen orienteer) and the instructors were discussing whether i should take the orienteering session
Reason for: - i'm an experienced orienteer and have recently done a coaching course
Reason against: - The session they run only for 3hrs and is more about the achievement of getting controls, and don't follow the rules of course setting for orienteering. e.g. they set a 2.5km course but have some easy controls and some hard and if they don't get them all then thats ok. I wouldn't be used to coaching this way and therefore i shouldn't take the session
- thought it was an interesting way of looking at it.

I want to walk up the side of the mountain, I want to walk down the other side of the mountain. I want to swim in the river, lie in the sun. I want to try being nice to everyone.
