Anyone know if there's a config change that's making Nope load slowly (if at all).
Since the start of August, the board has been very slow for me, and it's taken 20 minutes for me to log in today.
Would be a shame if it's been abandoned, as there are years of useful history and debate here.

Can confirm that it's not just you finding it unacceptably slow.
Would be nice if one of the techies could tell us what the problem is, and what might be done about it.

Re: Nope slow to load
Seems to be back to normal now (although I had to login again even though I'd previously set "log in automatically").

But logging in produces this dire warning from BitDefender now:-
Can something be done to correct this?

... except that you presumably could still log-in, in order to post that message!
More generally, I think we have to accept that this forum technology is ageing, and may reach a point where it is no longer supported, or where operating systems / browsers give increasingly dire warnings and at some point prohibit access. I already avoid doing anything sensitive, like finances, at the same time as accessing it. Failure might not be for some years, or it might be tomorrow!
Similar forums (fora?) where I am a member have updated their systems 3-4 times in the period where this one has been unchanged. It probably could be similarly updated, but only if someone is prepared to, and able to, carry out the necessary upgrades, and if one or more people are prepared to fund the ongoing costs. Not sure who, if anyone, from the original cartel is still involved (Murray?), but someone must be paying the hosting fees, to whom we should all be grateful.
In preparation for if or when it dies, there are probably two issues to consider:
1. should/can the collected forum wisdom(?) be retained and accessible in some way? Or is it just ancient history?
2. can we collectively agree another place to continue debate/discussion? (I have also known other forums die suddenly, for various reasons. Without a pre-agreed destination, or place to look, the previous users all went off in different directions, and the 'community' was lost overnight).

I suspect this is because Nopesport is using http and not https including the login. This is definitely bad practice in 2025 (though fine 20 years ago). Upgrading may not be straightforward or free (I don't know how this site is being paid for now)?
On a previous discussion here when a similar outage happened I think Nick Barrable suggested that CompassSport could host a forum, which would make sense as it would both be an easy place to find an orienteering forum, and would help promote the magazine. But I don't know how easy it is to host and maintain a forum these days with hackers and spam to contend with. An organised and planned migration from Nopesport to a new forum would definitely be preferrable.
The discussions on this forum could be archived in case some future historians wanted to understand what on earth orienteering was, but personally I'm happy to let history disappear. The future is more important and, like orienteering in general, these discussions need some new people (to have the same old disagreements

I would definitely second that!
I agree that it would be a shame to lose the history that is captured here. I think the logical thing would be to migrate from the current platform (phpBB) to something like Discourse. Not a huge task and I suspect we could find a volunteer or two with the technical know-how, if whoever is still in control were willing to have over the reins.
