The announcement includes (see esp. 2nd sentence) :

So we have a single supplier with (currently) two incompatible products… Unless they can be updated in a way that makes them interoperable I’m struggling to imagine both having a long term future in what is a niche market. Perhaps there are other (larger) markets for these products that I don’t know about.

Or now that they're not in competition with each other on price, then perhaps they can raise their prices?

(I suspect that isn't the case given most countries have picked and standardised on one or the other for nearly 20 years now)
