The first 13 men are from either Norway, Finland or Sweden.

The spectator races today had the joys of the area that was used for the Middle Quali yesterday. The low points were a control in a small depression on a vague slope in some "light green" that was actually a mix of impenetrable bushes, small trees and head-high nettles, and a control on a "marsh edge" that I twice ran within two metres of without seeing through the undergrowth, and which I eventually found by climbing a nearby tree and spotting from above. It was certainly different.
Apparently, there were some nicer bits of forest (i.e. where you could actually see the contours) on the Long today. Hopefully we'll get to visit some of those later in the week.

9 mispunches for the women and 18 for the men ... Anyone know what the issue(s) is/are?

Ralph didn’t punch at the drinks control but I think most of the mispunches are just retirals.

Kudos to the team for all finishing when so few of the larger teams did.

We so nearly went to Estonia. Glad we chose Coast and Islands instead, a truly fantastic event.

Re: EOC Long River and OOB.
At the Team Officials Meeting the day before, it appears the three event advisors of different nationalities, didn't appear to know the rules on "uncrossable" rivers either. According to the minutes, no one raised a question why black/yellow OOB tapes were placed on limited areas of the uncrossable river, either side of where it was crossable. Makes you wonder what team leaders discussed with their teams later in private.
On the early long leg, from competitor comments, the OOB tape to the left of the artificial OOB area, unlike the map, left a gap to run along beside the river.

Grace finished 20th (43.35) for her best result so far in the World Cup, and 20 places better than her previous best in the Middle discipline. Megan was 40th (50.51) and Fiona was 57th (69.11).
Ralph started in the Mens race five minutes ago, and there's a B race as well, with the remainder of the GB team involved.

Raplh must be feeling strong, he's chosing to run through the walk rather than go around and gradually catching up on Warren Key.

Today you missed out on a 0.5m boulder in dense 2m-high undergrowth, and maps in unsealed bags on non-waterproof paper in a thurderstorm. There were some nicer bits of forest, but our courses mostly avoided them.
The event bus has failed to arrive on both the forest days so far.

Murphy's Law, includng the lush vegetation. Wasn't the event planned for an earlier date, around the late spring?Scott wrote:buzz wrote:We so nearly went to Estonia. Glad we chose Coast and Islands instead, a truly fantastic event.

Re: EOC Long River and OOB.
It was originally supposed to be in 2020, but in late August, when the vegetation would presumably be, if anything, even worse.
Don't get me wrong - I don't mind tough terrain, but the course also has to be fun, particularly at what is essentially a holiday event. Culag Woods at last year's Coast & Islands was a good example of how to make a fun course out of some fairly grotty terrain.
It will be interesting to see whether people think we've got the tough vs fun balance right at Grizedale next week.
