So can you corss the river anywhere or is it OOB? We have goten used to man made OOB for course setting in sprint but we look to have it on the long leg of the long here. If your not allowed in the river I am glad I am not in the Jury.

Re: EOC Long River and OOB.
Unlike ISSprOM - just because a feature is mapped as "uncrossable" on an ISOM map does not make it forbidden to cross. It might well be physically impossible or extremely dangerous to attempt, but not OOB unless explicitly marked with purple overprint.
The planner should never require or tempt competitors to tackle such features - so the course line should always be bent round or broken. And course lengths should be calculated on the basis of going round, but the rules do not actually prohibit competitors from swimming across a lake or climbing a 10m cliff.

The wood looks really slow.
Surprised no one has taken the long track route 6-7.

Great planning(!), so without seeing the river crossing area you need to decide whether you can swim/wade across it, or go around, and that's in addition to some amazing AWOLs expeditions by some elite orienteers. Fortunately we have some good swimmers. May the force be with the GB team!

That out of bounds is weird.
Unless Ollin Heino had been wading through/along the river he’s just run through it. Wonder if it’s marked on the ground?

For an armchair GPS viewer it''s difficult to know where to watch. I guess someone is having a drama free day. Certainly character building.

Tove made the same mistake as Meg at number 1.

Ohlsson runs on the track through the OOB.

Could be a busy day for the organisers, if there's a protest.mikey wrote:Ohlsson runs on the track through the OOB.

Looks at least 90s slower to go round the OOB than crossing the river.
Someone's going to have to get a wiggle on to get anywhere near the 73min EWT

Even with a jetpack and a flamethrower, no-one is doing 73 today.
Either the courses are overplanned, or someone overestimated how good the best orienteers in the world are.

Re: EOC Long River and OOB.
From word from the forest it would seem that there are some truly horrid forests out there in Estonia. No pre runners, full on nettles, brambles and out and out grot. Its just not a level playing field between early starters and late starters. In my opinion these races ought not have been given permission to go ahead. Early starters should be given the same chances as other competitors to give a good performance. They are athletes that have trained to be there - they aren't just vegetation fodder. Perhaps we should reverse the start list for the middle final and even things up a bit.

The women were expected to average 5.66min/k with slightly more climb per k and the men 5.55min/k. "Equality" if you adjust for the climb.Auld Badger wrote:Even with a jetpack and a flamethrower, no-one is doing 73 today.

Re: EOC Long River and OOB.
According to World Of O, the terrain and much of the planning as the same as was going to be used for the original 2020 date. I'm guessing that:
a) It was due to be held in May/June (EOC's traditional slot) when the Baltic forests are a lot nicer.
and
b) The Women's course has been extended to fit the new regs for EWT but someone forgot to update the bulletin!
