Largely cancelled/postponed due to risk of forest fires in Portugal. There is a total ban on any forest access for at least a week.
Just the sprint race will go ahead.

Re: JWOC 22
I'm heart-sorry for the team. Many of them have had their entire junior international careers wiped out, first by COVID and now by fires.
Sensible move by the Portugese government in the circumstances, but that doesn't make it any easier to swallow.

Re: JWOC 22
At extremely short notice, the organisers of JWOC'22 have put together a programme of races to replace the forest disciplines lost to fire hazard.
The championships will open as scheduled on Monday., with the individual sprint time trial.
There will then be two brand-new events; on Wednesday there will be the first-ever JWOC Mixed Sprint Relay, and on Friday, a gender-based Sprint Relay will take place.
The ban on forest activities expires on Friday, so the organisers have said that, provisionally and subject to permissions being reinstated, there will be a closing day forest race (possibly the Long), on Saturday

Re: JWOC 22
Congratulations to those who ran well, and commiserations to those who didn't get the performance they wanted.
I'd love to see what that 3rd last control looked like on the ground. There were too many top orienteers making big mistakes here for me not to wonder if there wasn't either a mapping or placement issue - or both.

Kudos to the organisers for putting on such a great relay race and TV production in such a short time. Great to have tracking that worked!
