In a word, yes
Let's wait for confirmed results though before we break out the party hats.

A great result . However i was disappointed in the coverage of the race, lots of shots of people running, little info re position etc. Even Megan barely got a mention until it became clear she was on for a potential medal. I could see , even with the terrible gps that she was closing on Abersold, then had a bobble at the end of the long leg, some comment on that would have built the tension. A shame as i have really enjoyed watching the 3 races. thought the coverage of the relay and knockout sprints was excellent. I realise that keeping track of all the action in a traditional sprint is difficult but a better job seemed to be done with the men. Maybe there was just a lack of info fed to the commentators. Too much focus on pretty pictures for me ( oh look another running through the water shot). probably should just have watched the time stamps.

Agreed - they were fantastic races - particularly the Womens - so much action and drama and the TV missed most of. We ended up watching the GPS tracking shouting at the Brits to take the right routes and cheering when others took the wrong route (sorry Tove). Fantastic courses, but poor TV production. Something for WOC2024 to improve on. What a great week though.
To oblivion and beyond....

Re: World Champs 2022
Personally I blame the planners for making it so difficult to commentate on this year! Having the Live Results in the corner of the screen with different colours showing those gaining and dropping back would add an additional level of suspense and involvement.
Also a short window before the ceremonies to analyse where the races were decided would help in 2024, even if it extends the broadcast by 5 mins. Personally, I was too busy following Megan to see Tove had messed up more than once. Had she not, it might have gone down to the wire.

From the organisers re the coverage of the Women’s Race….
“For information: the TV production suffered a connectivity issue with their fibre optic cabling at the beginning of the women's race yesterday. 5 cameras were put out of action, including the one at the start and one of the TV split controls.
This is the reason for the less-than-optimal TV coverage of the women's race; when talking with a member of the production team, it wasn't clear if this was a technical issue or because of external damage to the cable(s).”

Re: World Champs 2022
I assumed there was a technical problem with TV cameras during the women's race. They had pictures from the start line, but we lost TV1 and running camera to #3. It can happen. I think, to compensate, they should have introduced more live GPS into the broadcast. We also missed Tove's big mistake at the end of the course.

As a first timer viewer...
Its clear that better GPS would have improved things - that was the biggest disappointment of all - important detail was lost because even the commentary wasn't sure what was going on. That has to be fixed with something that can track in urban terrain more accurately.
Thought otherwise the coverage of the xsr and KO sprint were good.
The individual sprint felt rushed and so they were trying to catch-up on commentary the whole time. And this is independent of any technical issues they had
We missed the whole of the early starters (and would have done even if the cameras were working at the start) from the women's race because (understandably) they were talking about the men's race still. A bigger gap between M&W finals needs to be allowed for that if it's going to be televised.
I'd even consider potentially 2min start intervals (if it were me) to allow for more "in-play" analysis. Particularly on such a short course. Having the commentators focus on 7 runners rather than 15 would be an improvement.

When viewing the mass start option "Legs and sync" it gives the times as if everybody started when they turned tractrac on, which was 17:47 for the women. The actual time of Tove's (first) mistake was about 19:33.

I didn't have the TV coverage but I was trying to follow the dots. You had to guess where they might be from the turns they were making, which might be several buildings over from where they appeared to be. Other than giving you a rough idea of which route choice they had taken and the odd turn-round in a dead end alley it wasn't much use.
