Note, the BO guidelines state competitirs "should not" travel from tier 3 to 2 to compete... It is not forbidden.

Call it whatever you like, policy, opinion, interpretation - the question you need to ask yourself is do you really need to put yourself, and others at risk for the sake of a run around a forest/trip to the shops/round of golf etc

Going to the sales in York on boxing day is putting yourself and others at risk. Playing golf (or orienteering), outside, 2m from anyone in your own household is not.

Its not opinion or interpretation its government policy. You put yourself, others and the environment at risk every time you drive to an orienteering event, but you and society are prepared to except that risk in the interest of your health and well being. The vast majority of people seem to recognize the importance of sport to the health and well being of all of us, especially young people, certainly the government and our governing body does.

I understand handwashing still remains a particularly important way of reducing the spread of Covid-19. Should anyone be intending to follow DM's instructions there are two things to say
1. Don't. Slapping people is not going to help anyone and might spread the virus
2. Respectfully ask the person if there is a reason they are not able to wear the mask correctly, there are medical reasons that some people are not wearing masks although in my professional role I usually find these people are wearing a visor anyway or more often are not interacting with others to avoid putting themselves or anyone else at risk.
Let us not forget people that it is what we do that is more important for public health and if someone is doing something we do not agree with then it is better to move away from the situation.
Now have I misunderstood this and was it all a joke?

I think I can safely announce Tom Dobra as the winner of the 2020/21 Kent Night Cup. Not much compensation for Tom I suspect

We suffered no ill effects and did not get fined. Even managed to pass a pub and not get tempted to take a pint and a scotch egg, which of course we are not allowed to do in tier 3.
As we have a doctor in the house currently doing C19 test every 3 days we felt pretty confident that we were clear.
My eyes have deteriorated though, first control was 79 and read it as 67 and spent another 5 minutes bouncing around before looking again from the other direction!!
Our friends in North Yorkshire will be joining us in Tier 3 from tomorrow which I'm certain is not a result of our visit!

Mikey beat me to it but I suggest a trip to Barnard Castle might be in order...

I decided not to enter the event this Sunday. Looks like a good decision as the event will now be in a Tier 4 area. My area still Tier 3 so at least golf is still OK...

Not according to DM. Although my golf is very like my orienteering - wandering around in the trees on my own looking for golf balls.

Here's the official guidance from Golf England
https://www.englandgolf.org/covid-19-up ... locations/
Here in Tier 3 (for as long as it lasts) we can still play 4 balls from different households.
Well, we could if the course wasn't covered in snow

P.S.
Perhaps we need an All-Party Parliamentary Group for Orienteering?
Seems to work for golf. Any MPs that orienteer?
