The Scottish 6 Days website http://www.scottish6days.com has been completely revamped and preliminary details of Lochaber are there to whet your appetite. Many thanks go to Paul Frost who for many years kept the old website up and running.
Lochaber 2021 is squeezed between O-Ringen and WMOC (we were asked if we wanted to combine the latter with the Scottish 6 Days). For those who need to dash off to Hungary for the Sprint Qualification on the Saturday note that Day 5 (Creag Dhubh) is by Newtonmore, just off the A9 and a quick drive to various airports. Roadworks north of Perth are due for completion by March 2021 so expect to gain 10 minutes journey time. Not one, not two, not three but four new areas on offer and some spectacular scenery.

Where's the like button?
Fingers crossed it all goes ahead as per usual. We have accommodation booked on the Day 4 area. Hopefully I can play golf on the Day 2 area on the rest day

The boundaries of Locahaber appear to have expanded somewhat.

Actually Pete Days 2,3,4 and 6 are in Lochaber. I am sure you are in favour of Ardchattan (Day 1) and the new area at Creag Dhubh (Day 5) rather than some of the areas we found within the boundaries.

Any chance of an interactive web map on the new site showing the days/areas locations etc. I know how good you are with GIS

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
Surely 'Lochaber' is an event name, rather than a strict definition of where each race must be held? Having said that, travel distances do seem to be on the higher end of the scale.
But kudos to the team for going ahead and providing something to look forward to in these gloomy times.

And also a quick glance programme of the days would be nice. I had to go to each page individually to get the basic info. Thanks.

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
Thanks for the feedback. We will try and get further helpful information incorporated into the website when normal service resumes. Attached is a map showing a 50 km buffer (as the eagle flies) as well as red dots representing areas considered and visited but rejected for various reasons
Parking was a really major issue with land managers reluctant to see their fields being trashed if the weather was wet as well as some concerns about moving livestock around. Some areas (previously used) either had significant growth (fewer grazing pressures) or at the other extreme had suffered from major felling. Many parts of Scotland's Forest Estate also have a load of windblown trees making progress impossible. We did consider a final day heading out to the A85 or A9 (the non-capercaillie side) but there were issues over pheasant and partridge pens and once again parking issues. The Creag Dhubh location had to be on the Friday rather than the Saturday because this is the day of the Newtonmore Highland Games which include a race up the hill through the competition area! On a positive note we have had great support from the land managers in all the final locations.

Does https://www.scottish6days.com/day-information/ not answer this?

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
Can I ask someone in the know about the 15% increase in "cheap" entry fees....from £19 per day in 2019 to £22 this year. Other than anticipated additional Covid-19 costs, are there other "hidden" costs this time to warrant the increase? Being so heavily involved last time it's not a complaint as I know how much work goes into staging the event, and there are additional risks this year. I was just curious as I am sure others may be....

Re: Lochaber 2021 Scottish 6 Days
The event budget is based on a reduced number of competitors - 2300 rather than the usual 3,000+. Total income is estimated at £271,808 and expenditure at £296,431 resulting in a loss of £24,623. Many of the event costs are slightly less than 2019 (even with four new areas and increased travel distances) but costs including a contribution to the Scottish Orienteering Association remain much the same. Junior fees are unchanged. The Board agreed that a modest increase was required.
