Does anyone know if the IOF have decided on the venue for WMOC2021?
Understand the contenders were Japan, Spain, Italy and Bulgaria

Re: WMOC 2021
So presumably they're ignoring their earlier observations
However, having the WMOC as part of the WMG has proven to create difficulties both organisationallyand financially. IOF member federations who have had organiser responsibility have met challenges indealing with the WMG Local Organising Committees (LOC). These challenges have been felt to be to the detriment of the competitions. Financially, entry fees for WMOC in WMG years have been quite a bit higher as there is a need to cover also parts of WMG organising costs. Finally, WMOC is an importantsource of income to the IOF and in WMG years this income is significantly lower.
Recent discussions with the IOC Sports Department indicated that although the IOC looked favourably upon orienteering’s inclusion in the WMG, they were not of the opinion that WMOC needed to be partof the WMG. They noted in the discussion that several other sports were in the WMG yet organised their own Masters Championships in parallel with WMG. In fact, in 2017 orienteering is the only sport which organises its own Masters Championships within the scope of WMG.

Re: WMOC 2021
Have to say I was very impressed with the organisation of the WMG in New Zealand and felt that it benefitted from being part of the wider games, especially the travel and access to tourist areas. Didn't really notice a downside and wasn't any noticeably more expensive than Denmark this year.

Re: WMOC 2021
The World Masters Games in Japan has now been postponed and this has a significant knock-on effect for WMOC 2021.
It's not clear however if postponement is until later on in 2021 or until the same time in 2022 and the IOF is hoping that this is resolved soon.

WMG in Japan is now confirmed as postponed until 2022, with dates still to be determined.

So will the Italians get bumped to 2024 or WMOC in Japan cancelled?

At the virtual General Assembly of the International Masters Games Association (IMGA) yesterday it was announced that the World Masters Games 2021 in Kansai, Japan, which includes the World Masters Orienteering Championships 2021, would be postponed until May 13 – 29, 2022.
In expectation of the decision by the IMGA and organisers in Japan, the IOF has already started a process to see if an alternative organiser of a World Masters Orienteering Championships can be found for 2021. It is already clear that future appointed organisers, Italy in 2022 and Slovakia in 2023, are not able to move their events to 2021 and these will go ahead as planned. The IOF is therefore pursuing other opportunities and hopes to be able to make a decision about WMOC 2021 by the end of November 2020.
The IOF Council will also discuss at their upcoming meeting on November 20 what the status will be of the World Masters Games in Japan, which has been postponed to 2022.

Re: WMOC 2021
From the IOF website today:-
World Masters Orienteering Championships 2021 to Hungary
Following the postponement of the World Masters Games 2021 in Japan to 2022, Council had initiated work to find an organiser of a WMOC in the calendar year 2021.
Council also considered a suggestion from the organisers in Japan to organise WMOC 2021 (with 2021 age classes) as a part of the World Masters Games in May 2022, but this was considered not to be an optimal solution as there would only be a short period of time between WMOC 2021 in Japan and WMOC 2022 in Italy in that case.
Of the 2 applications which were received for hosting a WMOC 2021 at short notice, Council decided to appoint Hungary, with the event to be held in August (preliminary dates 7th – 13th). The Event Center will be located in the town of Velence in the Fejér region, approximately 50 km southwest of Budapest.
If for some reason the WMOC 2021 event cannot be held in Hungary in August, such as Covid-19 restrictions still being in place, it may once again be added to the World Masters Games 2022 program in Japan.

Re: WMOC 2021
Looks like it's a rehashed version of a postponed event from this summer:

Note the original featured mobile-o, a beer-o relay, paddle-o, trail-o and biathlon-o!
No doubt they'll have a proper invitation out shortly.

The organisers have now posted an update which gives the latest information on the effects of Covid-19 in Hungary. They also stress that "WMOC 2021 is on track to be held".
