The UK Elite Orienteering League returns in three days time. Maroc are hosting Rounds 1 and 2 starting with a sprint on Saturday on a new map of Johnshaven followed by a testing long on Birsemore on Sunday. It looks set to be one of the most competitive opening rounds ever with a stacked startlist.
From now until May athletes will battle for points in forests and on the streets to find out who are the best all-round orienteers in the country. As always we have categories for MW18, 20, U23 and Senior.

Making orienteering exciting again
The League is a vehicle for making orienteering exciting again. We do this by promoting the series using slick marketing, creating content and by rewarding success with prizes. This supports our vision of a vibrant domestic scene that encourages young people to stay in the sport and the inspires the best to compete internationally at the highest level.
This year we are bringing GPS tracking to the British and JK with the support of the Orienteering Foundation, Scottish Orienteering and organisers. During the races our website will turn into a mini Live Centre with links to tracking, live results and potentially a live stream from the finish if mobile signal allows.
We are increasing our content on Instagram Stories to connect with people too young for Twitter and will grab GoPro action wherever possible.
We are hiring
For what we want to achieve we need to expand the team. We have the vacancies below with more detailed role descriptions on a post on Instagram.
Instagram Story Editor
Web Manager
Social Media Manager
Videographer
Live Director
The most important role is Web Manager as Duncan Archer is looking to handover responsibility this summer. I am also looking to share responsibility to focus on making better events, sponsorship and training.
If you or a crew is interested in any role, or would like to oust us, please send a message or email ukeliteoleague@gmail.com. I’d love to hear from you.
Support the League
A key part of our strategy is rewarding success. If you share the League’s aims please consider donating to the cash prize fund via Donorbox.
Over 60 different athletes have been supported over the last five years and have gone to compete at on to Junior World Championships, World Championships and various levels of European competition.
We are actively looking for sponsors and have put together a Sponsorship Pack detailing the League, its media coverage and marketing opportunities.
Podium Catering have come on board to provide £5 vouchers to those who top the podium at individual races. Head to them for delicious chillies, soups and brownies.

Re: The UK Elite League is back
Before lockdown we squeezed in the first couple of races. Since then we have run a mapping comp, dropped an April Fool and set a video challenge.
We are getting more bullish on a British season being salvagable this autumn.
Our sources indicate the British Championships in the South East and Northerns/Middles in the Lakes are definitely postponed to 2021.
The events below look good and still appear on the fixtures list. Does anyone have any gossip if any of these are cancelled or postponed to 2021 already?
22/8 - Scottish Champs - Tentsmuir - POSTPONED
5-6/9 - Senior Home Internationals - Aberdeenshire - POSTPONED
20/9 - Welsh Champs - Merthyr Common
27/9 - SOL5 - Anagach
4/10 - Caddihoe Chase - Hampton Ridge - POSTPONED
2-4/10 - Cairngorms Classic Weekend - CANCELLED
18/10 - CompassSport Cup - Sutton Park
1/11 - November Classic - New Forest
29/11 - Southern Championships - Long Valley
The ability to stay away from home will probably be key factor to allow the 2020 Elite League to be completed.

Re: The UK Elite League is back
Sadly, the Scottish Championships weekend is no longer happening, and is now shown as Cancelled on the fixture list.
John Emeleus, the weekend coordinator, has asked me to post the following:
"The Scottish Champs events at Tentsmuir (Individual Long Distance and Relays), originally scheduled for August 2020, are not taking place this year. It is still hoped to hold these events at the same location, possibly in 2021."

If you're keen on some actual orienteering (and can get yourself there), then Bubo Cup in Croatia has just been confirmed for the second weekend of July!

Assuming they allow orienteers from the UK to enter the country... I suspect plenty of nations won't want us from our plague ridden population with the highest infection/death rate per million of the world.

I didn't realise Scotland was so bad. We had not heard that!

I think Scotland (and Wales and Northern Ireland) are doing significantly better than England - check out the z-values for excess deaths, scary reading...

Checked out the graph of excess deaths (Z-Score)
Northern Ireland peaked at about 9, Scotland at about 16, Wales at about 19 and England at about 42...

Quite possible - you didn't have a prat of a royal coming into your area with the infection and goodness knows how of his entourage infected with him...
