I was thinking for more of a welcome and to reinforce/explain social distancing rules.

The draft paper is now up on the website for consultation. The deadline for feedback is Thursday 7th May.

Re: Preparing for a restart.
Its difficult to plan too much until we know the plans for easing restrictions - minor details which could make huge differences to orienteering. I think the most useful thing at this stage is for BOF to be lobbying the government, major landowners etc and positioning orienteering as the ideal sport for social distancing. Also making the case for sports to be considered individually so there aren't blanket bans on all sport or all gatherings of a certain size.

I'd suggest using a video clip of Lundanes running in the forest.... the noise and breathing he makes is really going to support social distancing.... by at least 5m
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

Stan was similar, you could hear him coming a mile off lots of snorting and spitting!

Re: Preparing for a restart.
I remember being a "manned control" - back when such things were needed - hearing a massive crunching, snorting and thumping and a minute or so later Steve Nicholson crashed out of the terrain. Ten minutes later, Andy Kitchin materialised silently as if from nowhere. They finished 1st & 2nd about one second apart. Takes all sorts.

Re: Preparing for a restart.
I know the comparison isn’t 100% relevant, but in Austria the general rules have been published and they are very broad. All it says is that outdoor sports are generally allowed as long as a distance of 2m between competitors can be maintained. It then delegates the details of how to make this happen to federations.
Maybe something similar will happen in the UK so it’s good that BOF have a draft plan out. At the end of the day, the government won’t be able to police or approve every sporting event in the country.
So as has previously been discussed, getting landowner approval is likely to be the harder bit.

Re: Preparing for a restart.
Condolences to all sportsmen and volunteers for all the disappointments 2020 has brought.
The measures to avoid any orienteer getting too close to another (during an event) are all practical suggestions that should be implemented, but how does one reduce the danger of someone getting infected when several people cram into a vehicle to travel to the event?

me too. Well the household is 4, but the other 3 see orienteering as something best replaced by anything else ...

I'd love you to join me for O,
But you're only permitted to go
With mother and pa
But not in my car,
Though perhaps I can have you on tow.

Re: Preparing for a restart.
So, we can resume orienteering from Wednesday... in England, subject to sensible social distancing in car parks and assemblies. So can BOF quickly confirm that insurance cover is valid and they will accept levies collected. I’m driving off at 0700 Wednesday to pick up on some pended Controlling and Mapping!

According to the Beeb
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said on Twitter: "In tentative steps and in the least risky outdoor environments, we can imminently allow some sports activity like golf, basketball, tennis, fishing - solo/in households. Guidance to follow."
