And Greece :
"People could leave their homes to go to work, see a doctor, get provisions wherever delivery wasn’t possible or go to a bank and petrol station. They could also go out for exercise in small groups but only if they kept a strict kept a distance from one another."
So suitable for Greece as well...

and from UK gov (which actually covers England) - but I guess the Scottish gov has similar suggestions for us in Scotland.
Does that mean never going out?
No, but for most people it means radical lifestyle changes. To reduce the spread of the virus, you should avoid meeting up with friends and family, avoid venues such as pubs, clubs, restaurants, cinemas and theatres, and work from home wherever possible. If you need to see the doctor or other essential services, use the phone, internet or social media if possible. You can go out for a walk for exercise, but stay two metres away from others.
My italics.
So a walk is fine (a run would be too. Orienteering means even less chance of passing or meeting someone so must be considered an even better option.
Stop worrying and get out there and exercise!

We wear full leg and torso cover to reduce the chance of sharing a blood borne infection through scratches while orienteering, it should not be too long before buffs are altered to become face masks in club colours that we can wear while orienteering

9 years since I last logged in and the account still works!
We live in Switzerland and it has been a real change here... last Friday, school was cancelled till end of April (at least) and gatherings were limited to 50 people. Effectively, this meant all races were off but we could still run training. Then on Monday the government went further - all shops (bar food and pharmacy) were shut, all bars, restaurants, sports centres, museums etc were shut, and we’re only supposed to go out for food, medical reasons or work according to the Confederation. The Cantons have specified that outside exercise is ok in groups of less than 4 as long as we maintain a distance of 2 metres.
We’re still training individually and as a family. People are still out running, walking and cycling. The worst thing is the social pressure - the Swiss do love to tell you what to do, and Facebook is full of posts from people saying “stay at home, don’t go out for any reason”. Some people definitely want to be more extreme than the restrictions. Until we’re officially confined inside, we’ll keep running.
The regional junior squad have come up with a good way of training the kids. The coaches have been out to local forests hanging markers and creating “permanent” courses. The maps are then uploaded onto a shared drive for the kids to print out. They have to train alone, but as they all upload their training onto a shared app, the coaches can see what they’ve been doing. As a family we’ve also been rerunning old courses on old maps. Controls are a bit of tape attached to a clothes peg - husband and I set off opposite ways round a course pegging the sites; daughter follows collecting them in. That works well.
All events here are cancelled till the end of April, but already some later ones have also gone (Swiss 5 Days at end of May for example).

Three months of no orienteering, so are we getting 25% refund from BO membership?

@nooomember, I'm sure you're having a whale of a time with all the potential for trolling at the moment, but please, just get lost.

Sorry, but its quite a valid, legitimate question, and certainly does not constitute 'trolling', so please apologise.

Thanks for raising a good point nooomember.
BO's finances are going to be seriously impacted by this. No levy income for many months may mean that major cost savings will have to be made. This could mean redundancy for some.
Maybe we should all be asked to pay increased membership fees for this year to avoid catastrophe? What's happening to the AGM anyway?

?
These are unprecedented times and we should suspend most of our ‘rights culture’ and think very carefully about our responsibilities to others including BOF and other businesses that support our sport. If we want BOF, Compass Point, CompassSport and others to come out of this interregnum in a strong position we should be looking at ways to support them, not shaft them.

Totally agree. Anyone who has paid their membership fees has decided they can afford the money so trying to claim it back later is slightly bizarre. BOF will need to continue paying staff salaries, rent, utility bills etc. Its also a trivially small sum for what we get in return.

Nooomember, I suggest you read the Objectives within BO's Articles of Association available online at Companies House. You'll find the directors would be acting against those Objectives. Even though we are members of BO, BO exists for the Sport of Orienteering and not to represent its members.

If £3.75 is someone's biggest concern at the moment, I envy them. For it to be any kind of concern at all suggests they have yet to grasp the gravity of the current situation.

For our immune systems, never mind our sanity, we ought to be exercising (social distancing of course) and making sure we top up our vitamin D levels in the sunlight, when they are their lowest annual level.Big Jon wrote:Stop worrying and get out there and exercise!
