Re: Knock-out sprint.
wow , that's a brutal format. * mins of orienteering and only 3 to qualify from each heat. you don't even need a mistake to be out , just a hesitation. Semis looks even harder, just two fron each heat to go through.
Megan and Alice both in different heats in Semis, Kris and Ralph both in heat 1 . wonder if that will help or hinder?

Good route choice by Alice to close the gap on the leaders but run out in the final sprint.
Mind Shminty lost out by 1sec in the qualifications. Needs to get his 100m times down!

Megan leading into the last few controls, chose the wrong option on the final split, 3rd by nothing.much. So close .

Re: Knock-out sprint.
A good spring finish looks to be needed. It's a cruel looking format.

Brilliant by Ralph, slightly off the pack but took the right option at the end and got the lead, Kris following and relying on his pace, both qualifying.
Thought we had Kris famous in the building control hoodoo at one point when the gps went crazy
that final leg route choice really proving critical, but counter intuitive as you have to come back from the control initially. tendency to keep going and/or stay with the pack.seems to dominate.

You have to just take the alternate option if your not very confident in your sprint and your not in the top 2. There was some choice at the end of the women's final but I have not worked out what was best from the gps.

Nooo, Kris, blown it at first control.
But brilliant finish by Ralph again to take 3rd , ahead of arguably faster runners. He really does run with his brain in.
