This weekend sees the 30th anniversary of JIRCs (Junior Inter Regional Championships) where the 12 regional juniors squads come together to compete in long distance and relay races and no doubt have some fun in the process.
Fittingly this year's race is to be staged just outside Sheffield a few miles down the road from the first event at Strines in 1989.
I estimate that around 3000 youngsters have enjoyed the opportunity to compete for their region with a few going on to compete at higher levels. A testament to the hard work put in by JROS and the clubs that support them.
The list of recipients of the trophy for Best Individual Performance makes interesting reading - all have since run for GB with a few WOC and JWOC stars amongst them.

Re: Junior Inter Regional Championships
A wet and windy JIRCs saw Scotland take a big overnight lead, but Yorkshire & Humberside only one point behind North West in the fight for 2nd.

Re: Junior Inter Regional Championships
More wind and rain at JIRCs relays with South West taking the Mens' title and Yorkshire and Humberside the Womens'.
https://www.southyorkshireorienteers.or ... /index.htm
Overall the top 3 were unchanged for the 8th consecutive year, but while Scotland had a clear lead North West only beat Yorkshire by a few points, apparently after the SYO officials did the honorable thing and reinstated some DQs despite the lack of backup punches at dodgy controls(see adjacent thread).
https://www.southyorkshireorienteers.or ... her_v6.pdf
Special mention to East Midlands who got a relay podium place and a very young South West squad finishing 4th overall with several MW12s and others running up throughout the team.
Imogen Pieters won the best overall performance winning W14 with the biggest percentage winning margin. Her coach thinks she's more than capable of going on to emulate previous winners as long as she carries on giggling in coaching sessions

You'll have to ask the organisers or JROS - I was just reporting what I'd been told. I expect Nev will know.

Re: Junior Inter Regional Championships
Rules say
Best Performance in the Individual Event
Awarded to the individual with the best performance in the Individual event as agreed by the Team Managers on Saturday evening
The Best Performance is defined as;
- a class winner
- it would ‘normally’ be the winner by the biggest margin
- whether the individual was ‘running up’ should have no bearing on the award
- it is not necessary to make an award each year
- if there is any doubt then a majority of the Team Managers will decide.
- if there is no time for a Team Managers meeting before the prize-giving then the award goes to the winner from Yorkshire
Edit : actually maybe we did have the managers meeting before the prizegiving. I don't remember discussing the best performance award, but maybe we did. It is possible my brain had got a bit soggy along with everything else.
