In the spirit of EmitGate I thought it appropriate to have a separate thread for comments on the results service at this weekend.
Couldn't make it myself but I've heard that the BOC weekend has gone well so far with the exception of results! No live results and its now 10.00pm and still no provisional results posted online. How hard can it be!

…. and a few more - I think these were from the end of the event but obviously not final results.

There were live wifi results, within a 50m range of the download tent, on all days.
The results of the Long didn't go online as quick as I'd have liked, but they were there by 11pm and Routgadget was there by 11:30pm.
We'll see if we can better that with the Relay results this evening...

Re: British Champs Results
The most common comment I've heard (I wasn't at BOC) is - why were they middle distance courses?
Winning times do seem very short - are we following Swedish rules where oldies get much shorter winning times?

Re: British Champs Results
Thanks to all involved for another brilliant orienteering weekend - I only ran the Relays which I thought were great - good map and courses and tricky enough area to make for interesting racing. I heard good reports about the other days too.
I do think results presentation is an area that can be improved though and having criticised the JK its only fair for Nopesters to comment on the British as well - good or bad.
In most sports you have an idea of how you've done at the end of the competition but with time trials like orienteering you rely on the results for feedback.
At the end of the relays I had no idea where I'd finished and it would have been nice to have had some info either on the printout slip or live displays. To be fair I did notice some results monitors later in the event but I don't think they were there early on and in principle you could retreive your phone to use the event intranet - although I didn't manage to connect from the stand.
It was good to see the results published earlier for the relay, but couldn't provisional results have been published during the event? This might be have been a better/easier solution for live results than the local intranet and also enabled competitors to review results on the way home and others to follow the event from afar.
The Scottish 6 days took the decision to publish provisional results rather than wait for final results later in the day which was widely appreciated.
Also interested to know whether the results service was delivered by local volunteers or outsourced like the JK.
Thanks again for a great event.

I think the monitors were there throughout, they were certainly there from early on.
I thought they were well laid out: they showed results and times for each lap of each relay, and gave team position at each stage, plus runner position for their time on their lap.
The same information was available on the event intranet in the arena, if you couldn’t pick the network up from the stand it was hardly far to walk down some steps to the infield where it was definitely available.
So from our club’s point of view we found the info to be readily available and quickly updated, plus it was well presented. So thank you and well done Monday results team!
Why did I do that...

Where possible all our major events should have Live Results.

I could have sworn they weren't there when I finished at 11.30 but the little grey cells aren't quite what they used to be!
I agree the monitors worked well for the arena display (better than most) but I think major events should have online results where coverage permits either some sort of specialist system as suggested by Lard or occasional updates of provisional results.

Both. Outsourced to Eddie Speak, but also resourced/delivered on the day by a team that was SYO volunteers headed by Peter and Pete. Same team for all three days, but the website manager (me) got quicker at posting results by the end...

Unlike the JK which got slower each day and eventually ground to a halt!

Re: British Champs Results
As well as the monitors which were displaying relay results throughout, printed results were also updated frequently on the boards.
I thought the results service was fine - and massively better than JK.
A great weekend all round - many thanks to everyone involved in making it happen.
