The commentary wasn’t the best.
Yes there was a lack of results, but they were too focused on the elite and also very repetitive.
Don’t want to hear the expression “superman finish” ever mentioned again, sometimes it’s better to say nothing.
I am lead to believe Andy M will be back commentating soon, phew.

I thought the commentary team did an excellent job given the lack of radio control or live results. It's hard to keep going for several hours with virtually no material to work with.
There was a lack of meaningful commentary (other than for the brief spells when some useful race data was being transmitted to the commentary box). That certainly wasn't the fault of the commentators, who did their best with very little race data!

It's got little to do with who was doing it, and everything to do with what data they are getting from the results system. I don't think Andy and Chris would have done any better without any race data!!

Thanks, you clearly understand the issues better than Kermit who is throwing spears at the wrong target.

thank you I'll pass on to the team that their efforts in adversity were appreciated by orienteers who understand the challenges they faced.

Never mind, I am looking forward to BOC with SI and somewhat more professional commentators

you are a complete muppet in both senses.
Insulting Katherine who is, with Andy M, one of the best 2 commentators in the country.
Fortunately the more intelligent and informed orienteers have taken a different view than the odd muppet

Re: JK2019 - the non-Emit thread
I don't know anything about what happened at JK other than what I'm reading here from the other side of the world.
It is possible to do commentary without a results feed the old-fashioned way with a start list and a stopwatch, but (a) you need to have someone who can talk and do mental arithmetic at the same time and (b) there is only a limited number of classes you can track at once - from my experience, more than 4 is difficult, and 6 is close to an absolute upper limit. Something like a JWOC or World Cup is doable, as is something like my usual commentary role (the Australian Schools Championships, which has 4 classes), but for something like a JK I don't think you could do any more than focus on the elites and perhaps a couple of other classes. Doesn't help if the system failure is "unexpected" either - if I was going to attempt to do a commentary "manually" I would want to have printouts of the start lists for key classes sorted by start time and by running number (if used), but if you aren't expecting to need them you probably won't have these on hand.

Re: JK2019 - the non-Emit thread
The JK Long course also had two timed-out road crossings. I think I'm right in saying that the controls either side were supposed to be radio controls, so if everything had worked then the commentators would have been able to get live race times with those splits deducted, but there was obviously no chance of factoring that in with a stopwatch.
