The UK Elite League returns this this afternoon in Sheffield. SYO’s urban race features specially-planned sprint courses with an impressive start list. If you plan it, they will come. Sunday’s Northern Champs is Round 2 and a Junior selection race.
All 2019’s races are below and full scoring details can be found at ukeliteoleague.org.uk.
This is the fifth year of the League and we are pleased to reveal Silva have returned as sponsor offering premium duffle bags for category winners: MW18, MW20, MWU23, Senior Women/Men.
Although the aim of each season is to find the top orienteers in the UK, the long-term mission is to make orienteering exciting again. We're doing this to encourage more people to stay in the sport, create a vibrant domestic elite scene and push the best to compete at the highest level internationally.
If this is a vision you share then please join others in donating to the cash prize fund at donorbox.org/ukeol which is one of the ways we make the series attractive to competitors. Funds are distributed to podium athletes at the end of the series and make a real impact coming just before the summer international season. 53 different athletes have been supported via the prize fund over the last four years and have gone on to compete at World Championships, Junior World Championships and various levels of European competition. We are looking to raise at least £500.
Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are the best places to keep up with the League as it progresses.

Spot the difference
Spot the difference between the elite sprint map and the punter one... (clue right hand map is the elite - route 14 to 15).... I know they are quick builders in Sheffield but...

I heard some of the punter courses also had the elite version with the areas of white.
U3 had the left-hand one.

Re: UK Elite League 2019
Two weekends down and the leaderboards are shaping up.
South Yorkshire staged a physical weekend with a sprint at the Sheffield Urban Race and the Northern Champs at Wharncliffe in early March.
Lakeland OC, British Orienteering and South Ribble put on a middle, sprint and long trio across Haverthwaite, Lancaster University and Hampsfell last weekend.
Who’s at the top?
In the Junior Women Fiona Bunn has two wins in three topping W20 jointly with Lizzie Stansfield followed by Megan Keith. Lizzie and Megan are W18s but due to the scoring system Mairi Eades two firsts slip her just in front of Megan to be second in the W18 competition.
Alasdair Pedley leads M20 from Alastair Thomas and Finlay Todd. Dominic Dakin, Flurry Grierson and David Bunn are the highest-scoring M18s with a win each.
Megan Carter-Davies has got the full 60 points from every Senior Women’s race. Is her lead unassailable? Chloe Potter and Kirsten Strain lie 2nd and 3rd. William Gardner has taken three wins from four, but the last one just by a second from Ben Mitchell in 2nd overall. Murray Strain sits in third.
Scottish Spring, the JK Festival and the British Champs are the next scoring races.

How can I keep up with the League?
Twitter is the best place to get results and maps live from the field. It might be a bit old-skool but it is quick to update and doesn’t feel like we’re spamming you. Expect daily Facebook posts during race weekends with a short round-up, photos, video and results. The best photos will make it to Instagram.
How can I support the League?
If you share our vision of making orienteering cool again to create a vibrant domestic elite scene that pushes our athletes to perform internationally then please join others in donating to the cash prize fund. We’re not far off our target of £500 (which we would like to smash through of course) so please give at donorbox.org/ukeol. SILVA are supporting the League this year with duffle bags for category winners. 53 different athletes have been supported over the last four seasons. After donating you will receive a thank you email and the transaction will appear on your statement as ‘UK Elite O League’. Prize money will be distributed after the final at the British Championships in May.
