63 finishers on the Black course at the Icenian yesterday. It's amazing what happens when you actually offer people a 1:15 map.
...and a good area with great planning

Before people dive in with the scale vs old eyes debate, this event was also the universities championship thingy (sorry, can't find the correct name), which possibly was a bigger factor
Maybe everyone wanted to go to the zoo afterwards?
Lovely forest and a nice course BTW.

It's called the English Orienteering Universities Championship, or EUOC - presumably a deliberately unambiguous choice of name.
There were 31 EUOC runners on Black, which still leaves a fairly impressive 32 non-EUOC finishers.

I cannot believe any English student could be responsible for such a thing.
And anyway, it's the English Universities Orienteering Cup (according to facebook - so it must be true). There was even a teacup, 'specially for Storm Erik.

Re: Ranking points on Black course
Never mind the acronym, but why is there a need for an EUOC when we already have a BUSF? The main objective I can see is to give a prize to CUOC for being the most local club.

So that someone else can win - apart from the real EUOC

So is this a BO competition, or something from Orienteering England, or something started by the event organisers to boost numbers in the M/W20/21 classes, or something else?

I think there was a problem with EOD maps on brown, and limited supply of blue, so a few folk had to run up.

Good to see - ten years ago we had 55 finishers on the black courses at a little local event on a 1:10,000 map
