Just wanted to mention the EUOC urban race in Edinburgh this weekend which was in a new (to most) area of Edinburgh and turned out to be the best Edinburgh race for years IMO. Two visits to complex Dean Village (the second on a 1:2k blown up map) and a visit to the complex Exchange (remember race the Castles). Nice wee indoor assembly area too and on top of that the planner managed to keep the running distance for MVET down to a reasonable 10kish.
Well done guys. Great turnout too so should be a decent boost to funds.

Re: Edinburgh Urban Race
The best Big Weekend yet! Great to visit two new areas (for me) of Calton Hill and Dean Village.
I really think that EUOC are onto a good solution for multi level Orienteering by using the ‘upper’ and ‘lower’ level symbol in the control descriptions for the Exchange area of the map in this event. I have found the detailed descriptions given in final details and attempts at different map colours for different levels all a bit confusing and over complicated at various events involving multi levels. The EUOC solution was very simple and provided the information required to navigate the multi levels.
Maybe some refinements needed to designate when you are entering a multi level area, but a promising development?

Actually yes. I thought that worked well too. Took a bit of close reading when it was so many controls close together so maybe as you say some refinement but a positive move for sure.

Dean Village was awesome. Had all my course there so brain power needed all the time. Would have liked a longer course but understand the plaaner didn't want to give us dead leg running just to increase the distance. The Exchange was just too far away. As previously said one of the best ever urban areas.Wll done EUOC.

I agree entirely with the previous posts. The organisation was excellent and the assembly venue was really good, with a trader indoors and a basic cafe on site. Then the map was absolutely superb with very clear cartography (you do not need to draw in every step - in fact it is desirable not to) and top quality printing.
Those younger and fitter than I would have liked a longer Course 5 but not I - courses can never be too short for me these days! I felt it was a Very Short Green of Urban courses - yes to the VSG.
