I am confused by the Saturday event - is it Mixed Sprint Relay, Individual Sprint, or both ?
If both, how do the timings work ?

From the website
The Open Relay is planned as a spectator event. It will start at about 1pm and the winning teams should be finished by 2pm. Other Relay classes will start from about 2pm. Individual Sprints will start from about 3pm.

That confused me as well: as I understood it, the "individual sprint" is not the British Sprint Championships, but effectively a spectator event. Is that right?

Re: British Champs 2019 (Long, Relays, Mixed Sprints)
The individual sprint is either for people who don’t form part of a relay team, in which they are competitive, or for people who fancy a run after their relay run, in which case they are non-competitive. At the moment there are different courses for each.
Relays are available in all the usual categories, only the open relay at 1300 is designed as a spectator event.
Might be tricky but we would really appreciate entries as early as possible to gauge numbers as this day is a bit of an unknown so far as numbers are concerned!

It all looks really good!
The only concern I have is whether it's sensible to have the Long race in Wharfedale the same day as the Tour de Yorkshire goes through - from my memory cycling races cause enormous disruption even when the roads are not closed.

Fingers crossed good weather has been ordered for the kettling near Kettlewell.Arnold wrote:It all looks really good!

Don't worry about the Tour de Yorkshire. The organsing group have long been aware of this possibility, and are able to organise around the race.
Orineteering venues get planned long before cycle race routes.

Trouble is, I don't know whether I want to enter the Saturday individual sprint until our club has decided upon its Mixed Sprint Relay teams, and I suspect there will be many others in the same situation.

And conversely, many clubs will only select Relay teams, including MSR, once they know who is going to the Individual (Championship).
So it is a bit of a catch-22 situation. It might be that for many the entry order will effectively be: Individual Championship; then at a later date Relay and Mixed Sprint Relay, via club; and then (at a later date still, if not in a club MSR team) Individual Sprint.

You can, of course, enter the BOC Individual now, and later also enter the Sprint Individual if you don't find a MSR team to run in.

Yes but at a cost. The bigger the family group the higher the surcharge. Is it not too late to take a sympathetic look at the entry deadlines for the sprint?

The entry fees and dates won't change now, I reckon.
The bigger the family group, the more reason why you should be running as a relay (even if it means entering Ad Hoc). It's £10 per person for the MSR, but £12 or £14 if you run as an individual.

Why not? All it would take is to keep the individual sprint entry price at the initial £12 until the second entry deadline. It’ll make almost no difference to the event economics, but will make it feel more “fair”.
