First closing date for JK2019 is this weekend!
A reminder about the JK2019, being held in South Central Region this Easter. The first closing date, Sunday 13th January, is just a few days away. That is the last day when you can take advantage of the best value entry fees. So now really is the time to enter.
Three of the four competition areas are very close together, near to Farnborough / Aldershot, whilst the Long race on Sunday is near Newbury (an easy hour’s drive away).
Parking and starts are less than 500m from Assembly on all days.
Friday’s Sprint race and Saturday’s Middle-Distance race are IOF World Ranking Events. In addition, all three individual days will form part of 2019’s UK Elite Orienteering League and the UK Orienteering League. All four days will use Emit touch-free punching.
There will be two TrailO events: TempO on Friday, and PreO on Saturday. Both will be within walking distance of the Foot Orienteering event centres. The JK19 TrailO competitions will also be the first British events ever to be part of the European Cup in Trail Orienteering. The JK team hopes that a good proportion of FootO competitors will also take part in the TrailO competitions.

Before anyone else gets in and the discussion moves onto the inevitable issues on pricing, I wanted to jump in and say how impressed I was with the event details. Nice and clear and very comprehensive looking. Good job organiser!
Orienteering - its no walk in the park

Agree it looks good & comprehensive - although somewhere different to Cold Ash for the Long would have been nice, as IMHO it's not really suitable for a Long due to its shape.
Re pricing, in isolation the JK pricing is not so bad, but JK + British + Scottish + various other Jan/Feb races does add up quickly, especially if there are multiple people to enter.

Indeed. It does seem strange to be revisiting an area used for the JK only 6 years ago. I guess gaining access on suitable areas for large numbers in the south of England can't be that easy. I was injured in 2013 so (touch wood) Cold Ash will not feel too familiar to me at least.
Windmill Hill should make for a good Middle Distance race.

With three people in a Relay team it would have been nice if the entry fee had been divisible by three. This was part of the feedback to last year's event which had exactly the same problem.
Also worth noting that the Senior entry fee has gone up from £50 to £70 which does seem well above the rate of inflation - although as the event is after March 29th maybe Brexit is to blame.

Surely any amount is divisible by three?
(You can haggle over who keeps the extra penny.)

Over 1,700 entries by the first closing date (with 80 more for middle than long).
Seems like a lot - does that put the event on track for over 3,000?

Bit of deja vu here as, regarding JK 2014 on January 8th 2014 ...
Later on, the JK2014 website included ...

Should be a great JK.

Some 613 overseas entries swelled the total entry to 3043, giving JK 2014 the largest entry for at least the last five years. The 2226 JK Sprint entries mean that Good Friday will see the biggest entry on record for any UK Sprint/Urban race.

Just done a quick analysis of the Fabian4 entries and I make it 1875 unique entries just now … [edit] with 92 from overseas, i.e. not GBR or IRL (who "supply" 104).

Re: JK2019 closing date
A reminder that the next price increase for JK entries takes effect on Sunday 24th February. Getting close to 2000 entries now for the Middle race, with the Long race and the Sprint not far behind.
Sunday 24th Feb is also the last date to guarantee getting a JK O-top in your size. That's when the bulk order will be submitted to the manufacturer. A few extra in each size will be ordered but, like with maps, the one you want may have sold out. And, just like maps, you won't want a recycled one!
If you have already entered, but now want to buy an O-top, just follow the instructions on the JK website http://www.thejk.org.uk/index.php?pg=369.
