Muir of Dinnet British Night Championships
Some are calling it ‘Potentially the greatest UK night race for years’. Put this one in your diary for Saturday 23rd February. Part of a weekend of orienteering in Aberdeen and Deeside. Muir of Dinnet is a complex moraine landscape with numerous eskers, drumlins, kames and kettles if you can recall your old geography lessons. Mostly forested but also very varied which all equates to high levels of technical difficulty. It’s a rather special area often reminiscent of Scandinavian terrain which promises a true test of technical orienteering ability. Underfoot can vary from very fast open moor and clean forest floors to more demanding steeper heather clad slopes. Courses will be generally a little shorter than last seasons BNC in Wales but do not underestimate the challenge offered by this ‘Jewel of Deeside’.
In edition there will be a sprint at Cove on Saturday afternoon and a SOL (Level B event) at Birsemore on the Sunday. All 3 events will have indoor event centres (complimentary soup and hot drinks at the Night Champs).

Bet that's not the first time you've got waxed before a big night out in Aberdeen Colin?
Orienteering - its no walk in the park

Re: British Night Champs 2019
Really looking forward to this but my night training isn't looking promising with the imminent YHOA night season looking a bit too easy to prepare me for the technical rigours of Deeside. The good news is I've managed to book accommodation nearby so I can make it by train, bus and foot. If it snows I may be the only one there so don't cancel!
For information, there are rooms and lodges at the Loch Kinord Hotel despite websites saying it's fully booked. There's some event on there but rooms are being released as the big booking gets firmed up so emailing the hotel direct is best... and I'm not on commission!

Both the Saturday night and Sunday event HQs are mere metres from the A93 (which has a decent bus service). Public transport is a definite option
