At our recent committee meeting we agreed our future club events would have dibbe r hire (if required) included in the price.
Are we the only people doing this, or are other clubs doing this? If so what have you found?
We figured that it would simplify event details and make publicity a bit easier, and for non members, nearly all would be hiring, and for members most would be hiring. Plus our slow version 6 hire dibbers are a deterrent to regular orienteers who might forget their dibbe r, or need to buy one.
One comment from a newish member on Thursday night that surprised me was "now dibbe r hire is included in the fee, I'll have to buy one". He was only hiring because he wanted to donate the extra £1 to the club!

Re: Dibbe r hire included in entry fee
For our club only weekly events (WCOC) we have never had a hire charge, and that's going back to 2000. This could easily work out to be £1000 a year, although the hire charge originally might have been 50p. Over the years folk have generally moved to buying their own ecard, and our registration sheets which are a list of regular attendees with their ecard numbers, have only a small number of non ecard owners. It makes the system of registration easier to handle, and all new competitors just see it as part of the sport.
Yes, the loss of a potential £18k makes you think!
