So what exactly is stopping us from putting on a proper FCC Final in 2019 with the Top 2 qualifying directly for JWOC?
Surely someone would be willing to organise it as a closed event. 3x2 courses to plan, 100 people to look after in some group accommodation. I’ll happily do it in the South-East if no-one else will.
Or is it that we need to convince “BOF” to accept it as a direct selection race? And if so, who is “BOF” for this purpose and what is their view?
Surely neither of the above is insurmountable. I have great memories of my only FCC final despite being way too rubbish for it - I even got the extra bonus of a newly revised Bilbo map...

There's nothing stopping you from putting on an event. If it doesn't exist, you can just call it, say, "British Mixed Sprint Relay Championships" and away you go. The problem with putting in a "JWOC golden ticket" is that the JWOC selection races for 2019 are already announced by the volunteers who were asked to do it and known by the athletes hoping to go. And p*ssing off volunteers is generally a bad plan.
2020 however...

Re: Future Champions Cup Final
I’m concluding from the almost complete lack of response that there isn’t a desire for this after all.
Clearly the intention is not to p*ss off volunteers but to provide a service that seemed to be desired (but which no one seemed keen to get over the line).
If anyone does feel like it should happen in 2019, 2020 or whenever, you know where to find me.

Re: Future Champions Cup Final
I'm with Mrs H.
The whole FCC series seemed to generate much more intense competition between the teenagers that I have witnessed since. Maybe it is because my kids went through it and I am somewhat more removed from teenagers these days, but I suspect not. In my opinion the focus on firstly qualifying for the final and secondly going for one of the certain JWOC places on offer was all positive.

I suspect the target audience isn't reading nopesport and even if they are they are too young to remember the buzz - but KP and I remember. It was electric, keeping kids in the sport during that tricky leaving home for Uni period for a series of must-do events which took us all over the country. qualification for the finals was announced on JK relay day and was a cause for much celebration. Perhaps it needs to be taken to the regional junior squads even if it needs a total re-launch. This is something that could be discussed at the Club and Association Conference.
Without JWOC selection it's dead in the water and lets face it - the people who won were usually going to get selected anyway.
There is nothing to loose and every thing to gain!

There is only one person (in my opinion) who is in the target audience and that is Paul aka Strider.
If you can convince him that one of the JWOC picks should be subject to direct allocation from a FCC competition then you can have a discussion around the competition format.
Without that buy-in you wouldn't generate the same interest.
And yes I am old enough that I toured around the country with my son to FCC competitions and Final back in the day.

Re: Future Champions Cup Final
The insoluble problem is we need to hear from the kids who, through disappointment at not making the final or not making the team, gave up the sport. This is always the problem with selections and rankings and such like. They are definitely the best system for the ones who succeed... but are they the best for the sport as a whole? I have read that research says not for the youngsters but I'm not sure the research is sound (not easy to do sound research in this field).
My other sport (chess) has one ranking list for all ages and intense competitons for selection but has a major problem getting a broad base of youngsters to continue playing as adults.

I don't think any current juniors will have a nopesport account, isn't registration still disabled?
Even if they could make an account I'm not sure many would.

Yup.
I am old enough that I toured around the country with my son to FCC competitions and Final back in the day.
Nothing much has changed there, juniors' still have to tour around the country, there's still stiff competition, those who get selected are happy, those who don't are sad or bitter.
There are two issues with the FCC final (which I controlled, long ago).
1/ Juniors only. It made a great atmosphere for the kids, and it made it financially lossmaking for the host club (once the TT Future sponsorship went).
2/ Golden Ticket to JWOC. Sounds a very fair way to do it, but it also means finding a date during May/June avoiding English/Scottish/University exams. It's already bad enough when selection races clash with exams.
