Re: WOC 2018 - LATVIA
Thanks a lot for all the support! A very exciting race to be part of and I'm glad it was exciting to follow at home too. Painfully close but we're certainly motivated to keep fighting

Any idea why?

100 logged on might be the highest number of genuine users.
I was watching at work yesterday so all I had was the live results, the WOC blog and the comments on here and it was still exciting. Well done to the team on getting so close.

Re: WOC 2018 - LATVIA
I remember for a long time the highest user count was during JWOC 2004. Alison O'Neil was in the medals and Mhairi Mackenzie had last start, and an infrequently updated live results page was the only possible source of info. Was that really 14 years ago ?

Long race today, and the Women are under way.
4-5 looks interesting. Plenty of different routes being taken.
Going east out of 8 looks like a long way round, but maybe is good.
Is there an option of running all the way around and through assembly for 16?!

The Megan option shall we call it
Having had time to look at the maps and watch all the runners on the GPS, me and Dad reckon the East route to 5 is good, then West to 7, and probably West to 9.
Sadly both Jo and Charlotte have made mistakes early, Charlotte missing 2 and Jo missing 1 - but both now back on track, with Jess just starting.

Re: WOC 2018 - LATVIA
Maybe, Megan did something similar in the relay and didn't seem to lose too much, but it is a long way around, maybe south to the road is better although a steep climb toward the end.
No1 looks vague and is causing problems, a wet pit in a wooded marsh and the features seem just to be form lines so vague. No2 isn't much better. Ok if you get them but hard to relocate if you miss. although the commentator has just said it is obvious !
Joe missed C1 and charlotte had a miss on c2
jess tullie has got 1,2 and 3 clean so far.

Re: WOC 2018 - LATVIA
jess taking a very wide line to w of 4 on the way to 5
Charlotte was taking some very good lines in the middle of the race but now seems to have got confused in the valley system 9-10 going S instead of W up the wrong hill, seems to have realised and is going back down, that must be annoying, lots of runners did the same in the relay , must be confusing around there.

Re: WOC 2018 - LATVIA
jo took a long loo 9-10, Charlotte and jess went direct, splits could be interesting.
Dambe doing a very S loop 8-9 can't really see any advantage as its messy and steep at the end.

TV coverage would be much better without the change of commentator.....

Re: WOC 2018 - LATVIA
Looks like jo is going for the long loop around15 to 16
jess put in a lot of extra climb 12-13 presumably to avoid the green and marsh in the valley bottom but having got ahead of Hagstrom they are now together again
Good route to 16 by Jess, Hagstrom getting in the green on the slope.

The men have the same first control as the ladies, people still having problems , you would think it would have tracked up by now, Hector taking the aquatic route to 2 , you can tell he trained in Scotland.
massive long leg 8-9, most taking an E option to avoid the valley systems but lots of variance .

Hector managed to get rid of his two minute man but that chap got hoovered up by Lassen and pulled back , luckily Hector seemed to latch on as they got to the control so that might help him to maintain speed.
Alan Cherry ran with Sirakov for a while then took a more direct line and was picked up by kratov which seems to have helped him maintain speed through some complex areas.
