I suppose the flipside of the argument is that at least this way each nation continues to have one guaranteed place in the Long final - although how much the lone Argentinan / Egyptian / Korean etc is looking forward to the pleasure I don't know.

To the get best of both the old and new systems and do away chasing WRE points, have x many from each heat going into the final, plus one guaranteed runner from each nation, with the start order of those extra runners based on their heat position. Make make sure the fastest runner from the heats, start at the same time regardless of the final start numbers to ensure the prize giving time is maintained for the TV broadcasts.Arnold wrote:I suppose the flipside of the argument is that at least this way each nation continues to have one guaranteed place in the Long final - although how much the lone Argentinan / Egyptian / Korean etc is looking forward to the pleasure I don't know.

No to distract you too much from your interesting conversation, but we are just about 30 mins from the start of the Women's relay. Jo Shepherd is running first for GB, with Megan second and Cat on third leg.
It's brutally hot here in Turaida, and the arena is very hill in places so expect to see some very tired runners on the tv coverage....
The Men start at 14:20 UK time, with GB team consisting of Peter, Kris, then Ralph.
Live results are here http://liveresults.woc2018.lv/followful ... en#Women-1
And I appear to get free access to the GPS tracking here https://liveorienteering.com/#/live?id=5459
but that might be because I'm on the Media network, so your mileage may vary

Big route choice (for a relay) to #13.
SWE going very different way to EST and SUI. Should be interesting...

Challenging courses, spreading the teams out. Taking 37 mins rather 34 min target- might be the heat.

Got to say the TV coverage is brilliant.
Particular mention to the camera(I assume)men in the forest. It will be interesting to see if they can follow the men for such extended periods...
Come on Meg. Anything still possible...

Either she is retiring, but doesn't look to be moving that slowly or a very interesting route choice.

She missed 15 unfortunately - ran between the two gaffles and straight to 16
