So plan for an elite winning time of 30 minutes ... problem solved.Scott wrote:graeme wrote:We seem to have a budget line for elite water at the middles, which seems pointless to me. I assumed it was in the rules, but I can't actually find it now.
Are you planning for it to be a WRE? The IOF rules insist on at least one water point on a middle, regardless of whether or not anyone will actually use it:19.8 If the estimated winning time is more than 30 minutes, refreshments shall be available at least every 25 minutes at the estimated speed of the winner.
Most clubs / events seem to have evolved to a sensible compromise in providing water. Competitors can reasonably be expected to make their own provision in the assembly area. If we want further guidance for non-WRE events it should perhaps be along the lines of providing water:
- within 500m of the finish if it is more than [1000m] walk from the assembly area;
- within 500m of the start if it is more than [3000m] walk from the assembly area.
The latter would reduce the need for provision mid-course, where logistics are usually more awkward. Make it a requirement for Level A, but a recommendation for everything else.
