Brilliant weekend. 5 contrasting events within 48 hours and a lot of hard work by the elite athletes putting it all on. Auchengarrich was a revelation very enjoyable and technically sustained. The forest has matured brilliantly.

That's interesting Eddie. I needed a rest this Sunday so didn't go. I've had two pretty unpleasant experiences at Auchingarrich and put it on my list of places to think twice about going back to. Great if its matured as you say into something more than simply a fight.

Re: Scottish Spring
Auchingarrich was one of the best forests I have run in for a while. I too had doubts but it has really opened out offering a great technical challenge. The area will next be used for Strathearn 2019 - the Scottish 6 Days. The website www.scottish6days.com/2019 now has some additional information about other areas, including Craig a Barns which is being completely remapped and two great new areas.

I too have not always enjoyed Auchingarrich but was pleasantly surprised at the weekend. there are bits of grotty plantation but much of the thick stuff has opened up under the canopy to slow run or even run. That said its still full-on orienteering there, so much detail on the map - contours, rock, vegetation (green and yellow), water features etc, its difficult to quickly interpret the map but very satisfying if/when you get things right!

Sounds good - looking forward to it now for 2019!
One of my wee gripes was the white lines in the green being used as if they were paths, when in actual fact if you couldnt find the end of it you were scuppered. Is that still the way its mapped ion the green?

Yes it is Andy, but the green was generally not very green once you were in it. Anyway I understand it is getting a total remap before next summer.
