First entry deadline is this weekend and it's looking nice!
As a bonus, they've already published a draft programme.
Surely a record for the earliest one? But very helpful, thank you.

Ha! Yes, that's why I'm just doing the sprint (and maybe the relays) - seems to be working fine now.

Re: JK2018
Does anyone know why some non elite courses (myself on M40 included) have 1:15 maps rather than 1:10?
I can confirm that eyesight definitely deteriorates after 35 and I don't know anyone who actually PREFERS 1:15 to 1:10 so why not use 1:10?
I'd have said 1:10 for all courses, but if Elites need to replicate WOC map scale then fine. But why the non-elites?
(I note that course 13 M16A W35L W40L has 1:10 so there is also sex discrimination here )

Yes David, I know, but does anyone in MW35/40 actually want 1:15? If not then who do we need to petition to get it changed?
(And please don't make the W40s have a 1:15 map just because I mentioned it)

Just the rule-makers getting carried away with slavishly following IOF rules, same as on mapping issues...

Also, WMOC 2018 Denmark says:
Which surely is the more relevant IOF reference?
Long distance maps will be 1:10 000 for all classes

Nowt to do with iof. The change to give 1:10000 to over 45s was made many years ago, and hasn't been revisited by BO, who make the rules.

I was an M40 once ... and the majority of maps we ran on then were at 1:15000 and I never heard anyone wishing for a larger scale at the time.
What's changed since then? Did we have better eyesight in the 80s

Re: JK2018
Back then Rules Group were very worried by 'scale inflation'. Give 'em 1:10000, mappers will put more detail on and then everyone will want 1:7500 and so on.

No the maps generally had less detail (and were utterly awful in many cases). Since then the demands of orienteers is for more detail. Mappers follow the clubs demands...
