The Final is Coming!
The UK Urban League reaches its climax at Castle Vale on 10 December. Most of the categories are already decided but a couple are not, and this year (with support from Ultrasport) we've got three 'closest runner-up' prizes so there's still much to play for.
TVOC's Joel Taylor has won MYJ with a perfect score (500 in this category). A win for Finlay Lowthian (NOC) would get him within 11 points, but that probably won't be close enough for a runner's-up voucher.
Ella May Rush (BOK) has dominated WYJ and also has a perfect 500. Daisy Rennie (LEI) lies just 6 points behind, and could get within two with a win.
James Lowthian (NOC) leads MJ with 592 points (it's six to score in M/WJ), and a win would seal it. Charlie Rennie (BOK) lies second and could improve from 580 to 589, but Jim Bailey (BOK) has only five scores so far and a win would give him the title. Second for Jim, with James lower, would give Jim a victory on tie-break.
Aimee Darley (GO) can't be caught in WJ, but sister Sarah could close the gap from 18½ to just 6½ points.
Three wins and four second places mean that Leon Foster (AIRE) retains his M Open brick by a commanding margin. It's much closer in W Open, where Vicky Bailey (EBOR) could close to within a point of defending champion Tereza Maria Rush (BOK) but can't quite overhaul her.
Martin Ward (SYO) has narrowly retained his MV brick despite an inferior read-to-head tally against Richard Barrett (BAOC). And five wins have given Jane Anthony (SROC) a brick-retaining margin of nearly 50 points.
Last year's top two M SuperVets have swapped places, with Keith Tonkin (GO) trailing the perfect 700 of John Embrey (DEE) by 12 points. Lindsey Knox (RR) also moves up a step to the top of the podium, with a good margin over Janet Rosen (HH).
Bob Dredge (WCH) is safe from the chasing UltraVet trio of Mike Smithard, David Jukes and Don McKerrow, who are covered by only 2½ points. WUV is on a knife-edge! The top two are tied on points but Liz Godfree (DVO) leads Heather Smithard 6-1 on head-to-head record. Heather needs a win and would then improve by four, but a second place would boost Liz by five.
The HyperVet categories are new this year. Guy Goodair (EPOC) has an unassailable MHV lead over John Evans (DEE). It looks as though there will be two bricks in the Goodair household: although Ruth Rhodes (SO) has matched Judith Goodair's perfect 600, Judith recovered from 1-0 down to lead Ruth 5-1 on tie-break and can't now be overtaken.

Castle Vale 10th December
We will be making a decision about the event on Saturday evening, and will communicate the outcome through all means possible (including email to those that have entered, the HOC website, facebook pages, Nopesport, British Orienteering website). There is currently an Amber snow warning for the West Midlands, which would make travel to the event very difficult and could produce treacherous conditions on the courses. However, a degree or two warmer and the situation is very different. Thank you for your understanding.

Castle Vale POSTPONED
The event on Sunday has been cancelled; we have freezing compacted snow and ice and the Amber warning for heavy snow in the morning is still in place. More information will follow about a rearranged date.
